Following the defeat of Veratis, a big argument ensues over the secession. Side 1: Tombi is the rightful king by law, dammit. Side 2: Aota is the rightful king by merit, dammit. The Empire splits down the middle. Grandma Estella (the Mikel’s Sword squire, remember) steps in and trounces both men, making them duel it out to solve things like Mekulets. Aota ends up throwing the fight. Tombi takes the crown, but Aota retains a heroic following.
