Mukala Dominion

The Mukala Dominion ruled the Crimson Sands from the 1500s BEC to the 410s BEC. By the height of its power, it had conquered the areas that now include Sol'cha, Silven, Heartland, and southern Lumina.

History

Originally, the Mukala were one of many tribes inhabiting the Crimson Sands. Then, they came into elemental channeling during the Awakening. See House Mekulet.

Rise of the Dominion - 1500s-900s BEC

Over the centuries following the Awakening, the Mukala began expanding across the Sands, eventually coalescing into a nation-state. The Jachi'en people (See Et'ens) refer to this time period as the Desert Wars.

By the 900s, the Mukala had official domain over the Crimson Sands. The Jachi’en were forced to flee west into the area they named Sol’cha (Land of the Sun). Any Jachi’en caught by the Mukala were enslaved.

[REDACTED], another tribe, fled north into the Silent Mountains.

Conquest of the Nebezni Gulf - 800s BEC

After taking over the Crimson Sands, the Mukala turned their attention east. They headed up the back of the Silent Mountains and through the Nebezni Gulf, laying waste to all they saw. The few remaining Nebezni city-states east of the Silent Mountains (still struggling from fallout of the Mage War) were generally destroyed.

Wights, the “white devils” who occupied the Silent Mountains at the time, were killed on sight. They defended the mountains for a while, but then fled north. Obsidian and other northern Valean settlements were missed (A small group of Nebezni survivors at Obsidian are attributed, though myth says [REDACTED] may have been involved).

Conquest of Sol'cha - 730s BEC

The Dominion then expanded west. The Jachi’en are pushed west, to the island of Et’cha (the Land of Exile). The Jachi’en conquered the local tribes and integrate, becoming the Et’ens (Exiled People)

Conquest of the Shimmering Sea - 710s-620s BEC

Aided by the acquisition of Sol’cha, the Mukala Dominion expanded north around the Shimmering Sea.

Kaelics were persecuted. In the face of this aggression, the Sheyla were pushed north toward the Pristine Coast, and were seen to unite the kingdoms there.

Plains Conquest - 550s BEC

During this time, the Dominion extended beyond what is now known as Heartland and into southern Grennire. They were seen to eye the Vale of Cosmos, but after once again being rebuffed, treated with them instead.

The Great Plague - 533 BEC

The Dominion was hit particularly hard as the Great Plague swept across northern Estana. The Dominion was said to have lost nearly half its population. Despite the taboo against Kaelic beliefs, the people of the Dominion began flocking to the Temple for healing, often practicing in secret.

In the wake of the plague, Lumina was founded in 530, and the Kaelic Crusades began chewing into the northern border of the Dominion from 533 BEC to 501 BEC.

Meanwhile, in the 520s, Et'cha struck back against the Dominion and managed to regain the southern area of Sol'cha. Sol'cha remained in Et'en control until after the fall of the Dominion.

Fall of the Dominion - 410s BEC

Finally, after a century of struggle from both within and without, the Dominion split into three separate nations.

The exact causes of the fall are manyfold, ranging from the exterior pressures of Et’cha, the Vale, and Lumina to the interior struggles of disputing warlords and suspected assassinations. Sheer size also likely played a part, as the Dominion proved too large to maintain its reduced population in the wake of the Great Plague, causing cultural ties to shift away from the Mukala.

The Land of the Crimson Sands
Located in the Crimsons Sands and overseen by Clan Ashkam, the Land of the Crimson Sands kept to traditional Dominion ways. They spent most of its time over the next centuries defending their borders against Et’cha. The remaining Mukala clans were eventually absorbed by House Mekulet when the Crimson Sands were annexed into the Triamic Empire in 111 EC.

Mekulet Kingdom
The Kingdom was located east of the Shimmering Sea, in the area between the Thunder River and Silent Mountains now known as eastern Heartland. They were historically aggressive, as a suddenly isolated nation surrounded by cultural enemies (such as the Vale and Lumina).

West Territories
This was the area along north end of Shimmering Sea, wherein the traditional plains feudal system integrated the Mukala. They experienced some tension with Lumina to the north.

Culture

The Mukala Dominion was militaristic. but nonetheless had a vibrant culture. Exceptional skill of all kinds was both respected and celebrated, although "dallying" and "dreaming" for their own sake are scoffed at. Rank was at the forefront of every social interaction.
