Inzalu Empire

The Inzalu Empire is the current superpower on the continent of Pele. If you see "Inzalu" referenced elsewhere, chances are it is referring to the empire rather than just the ethnic group (though the two have become synonymous in many circles).

The Inzalu see it as their duty to drag the rest of the continent into the industrial era--a philosophy that currently has them embroiled in a war with Uota.

History

The Empire began with the Inzalu tribes in the Inzalu Highlands, the origin point of the Twin Rivers. Nestled safely in areas too high altitude for the dinosaurs that roamed the savannahs to wander, the Inzalu were freed to innovate. Despite being geographically isolated, the Inzalu took every opportunity to reach out to other nations. They were among the first to embrace the benefits of Shali ariships and, with the fall of the Shali a few centuries ago, took the concepts and ran with them, pioneering steam technology and magitech.

Magic

The Inzalu have a complex love-hate relationship with magic. They have been using Godstone as a power supply for centuries. Godstone is infamously difficult to find in any usable quantity, but when you do, the substance never runs out of power. This allows them to power clocks, trains, airships, and small mechs that they call "Walkers." There is an entire class of enchanters dedicated to creating manufactured substances that act like Godstone, albeit the manufactured minerals will die out fairly quickly and are not the safest substance in the world to handle.

There are also some mages on Pele, though the Inzalu are known to suppress them with military superiority. Some magically gifted people will be given a life in the army, enchanting weapons and gear or communing with domesticated war dinosaurs, but most are just arrested and executed because of the strict restrictions on what mages are allowed to practice.

However, for all that they dislike mages, the Inzalu adore their magitek. The Walkers are two-story-tall mech suits powered on steam and magic that will often carry enchanted weapons (fire-swords, impact guns, etc.). Airships are powered by Godstone and propelled by elemental magic. Even elements of daily life, such as lighting, sewer systems, clocks, industrial production, etc., are aided by enchanting or powered by Godstone.

Agriculture

The Inzalu have begun using steampunk techniques to harvest groundwater and pipe it up to the surface, spreading the farm and pasturing land of the midland savannahs... and disrupting the ecosystem in the process. On a larger scale, this creates issues with flooding and mudslides, but most population centers prefer that to the water shortages that were common before this practice began..

Diplomacy

Uota

The Inzalu are currently at war with Uota.

The Triamic Empire

On paper, the Inzalu are trading peacefully with the Triamic Empire. In practice, the Inzalu are balanced on a knife's edge with the other superpower. They recognize one another's power, but hate what one another stands for.
