Grennire

Grennire is the verdant agricultural heart of the Triamic Empire.

Geography

Grennire is characterized by fields and farms spanning across the rolling hills and occasional patches of thick, temperate forest. The weather is highly sensitive to seasonal changes, with hot, dry summers, and cold, frosty winters. However, it is infamously pleasant and beautiful in the spring and fall.

Structure

Grennire is managed by a Grand Coucil, each of whom represents a particular region of the province. As far as provincial councils go, this is among the least vicious ruling bodies (the other end of that spectrum occupied by the Triamic Council and House Voldr's Celestial Court), generally settling disputes with that infamous Grennire kindness.

Assets

Grennire's greatest export is its agriculture, particularly wheat, rye, and other grains. Fruits such as apples are also common exports.

In the northern areas of the province, there is also a healthy forestry industry.

History

Grennire has been more a historical observer than a player for most of its history.

In the early days, southwest Grennire was on the edges of the fuedal Plains cultures. These city-states were among the last of the Plains groups to hear the Kaelic Temple's tenets, but they generally took quickly to Julianic tenets of hard work and humility.

Meanwhile, a civilization of Wights took up most of the rest of the province. Not much is known about their society, except the strange houses shaped directly from channeled stone that still stand as ruins today .

Dominion Conquest - 550s-533 BEC

In the 550s BEC, the city-states in what is now southern Grennire were invaded and conquered by the Mukala Dominion. Kaelics in the conquered territories were persecuted and fled north and west. The Wights who occupied the northern part of the province generously offer succor for the Plains folk.

Great Plague - 533 BEC

The Great Plague swept across the plains, ravaging the citizens who were not under the direct care of the Kaelic Temple Sheyla. This included much of the Wight culture that occupied northern Grennire at the time, leading to an increase in the Plains' population and a simultaneous decrease in the Wights'.

Kaelic Crusades - 533-501 BEC

In 530 BEC, Lumina was founded by the Temple. They gathered kingdoms under their banner and struck back against the Dominion--which was itself faltering under the effects for the plague. Over the course of decades, the Kaelics liberated the region now known as Grennire from the Dominion, with assistance from the now-Kaelic dominated northern communites.

Lumina had officially absorbed the entirety of Grennire into itself by 501 BEC. Most remaining Wights had generally gone northward to the Wight Valley (now Norslov) by this time.

Lumina Civil War - 160 BEC

In 160 BEC, civil war broke out in the Anolic region of Lumina. Grennire was largely unaffected by the war itself... however, Lumina's reduced power and resources in the wake of the war left the Grennire region in a strange liminal state where they were both of and not of Lumina. Lumina did not have the resources to oversee them--meaning that the local city-states were left to govern themselves--but the Kaelic Temples and local authorities still paid tribute directly to Kaelic Temple, just as they had as citizens.

From that point forward, Grennire was considered by most as its own independent region, but one with close alliance ties to Lumina, even following Lumina's joining the Triamic Empire in 70 EC.

Triamic Empire Conquest- 93-94 EC

In 93 EC (five years after the Imperial acquisition of the Vale), Ceres the Conqueror sort of... casually took over Grennire.

There was some token resistance from local militias, but many viewed it as an inevitability--even a relief--given the Empire's expansionist tendencies in recent years. The whole affair took an infamously short fifteen months. The most interesting thing about the entire war was that the Deathmage was said to have surfaced in the nearby mountains.

Upon becoming a province, the local kingdoms re-organized themselves into the Grand Council. Since then, Grennire has generally kept themselves out of the history books, culturally content to mind their own business.

Demography and Population

The Grennire people are most known for being just the most agreeable people you will ever meet. The Grennire people might be considered exceedingly kind and generous, if they weren't so gosh darn humble about it.

The population primarily consists of Imperials who follow the Kaelic Temple. However, there are some communities of Valeans in the east and even a few pockets of Wights--those Wights who choose to immigrate to the Empire often find Grennire to be the most philosophically agreeable province.

Economically, Grennire is notable for its narrow wealth gap. High wealth is implicitly frowned upon, leading to a subculture where the land-owning classes invest heavily in the community, infrastructure, and local Temples so as to remain (at least outwardly) humble.

Bright the Irreverent is one of Grennire's most well-known contemporary citizens... as little as they like to admit he's one of theirs.
