The Story of Shina and Seina
With the beginning of the world there came life and there came death for you could not find one without the other.
Seina gifted the world with life. Her pale fingers twisted her dark hair as easily as she teased the strands of magic into creatures that she led into the world.
Shina’s blonde hair and bright eyes were the light that people followed into death. As things decayed, she would take their hand and lead them into the afterlife.
Their days were filled with wonder and laughter, the people’s love sustaining them as they danced and played across the world.
As time passed they met other gods and goddesses who helped raise them; Aithe who would take them into their arms, Chiira who created caves for them to explore and play in, Maiito who explained their magic to them and taught them about the world. And other gods still who became their playmates; Senson who liked to taunt them, Hiila who played with them by the light of a fire and Soran who helped them spread secret messages across the wind.
It was Hiila that they became closest too, his flames both protecting life and causing death. He was slow to smile but that simply intrigued them all the more.
Until one day Hiila disappeared.
All the other gods looked near and far. Even Aoron traversed the waters to distant lands in an effort to look for him.
But they had no luck.
Shina and Seina fretted, their worry over their friend distracting them from their duties. Only the yearly festivals were what kept bringing them back to humankind.
Humanity felt their loss keenly and eventually joined in the search for Hiila themselves.
He was found hiding in a mountain until one day, Shina went to go collect him.
As soon as she saw him, she swept him into her arms and weeped for a full day and night until they came together in a moment of celebration.
What they didn’t know was that this love was one that would bring Senson’s ire onto them.
Shina and Seina returned to their duty, joyous at the return of their childhood friend and at Shina’s new relationship. All the creatures in the world rejoiced along with them but as they did Senson grew angrier and angrier.
The god of war was jealous of Shina.
Of her blooming relationship with Hiila and the love the people gave her.
He wanted to sow chaos and to get rid of her but to do that he knew he would have to rid the world of Seina too.
Over time the gods anger and bitterness had started to manifest into something darker, something more evil: the decay and Senson was the only one aware of this.
He decided to weaponize the decay and spread it across the world.
The chaos spread and people began to die.
They begged Seina to save them, for Shina to not force them to crossover but they didn’t listen. There was no way for them to stop the decay and slowly people began to fear death and to not appreciate the lives they had when everything around them was going so badly.
Seina tried her best, she pleaded with people to wait just a little longer but people slowly began to forget her. Her temples were ransacked or overgrown and not even Shina could bring her out of her stupor.
She grew bitter, wanting to die but knowing there was no way for her to pass on into the afterlife so she began to resent humankind instead.
Now Shina focuses on her sister instead. She has long given up on finding a cure for the decay, instead she forces her way into people’s minds and begs them to appreciate their lives, to appreciate her sister.
But it’s never enough.
And over time the once bright underworld has become dark and dangerous.
So if you see Shina and cross into the underworld today watch out for yourself as she’ll only care if you choose to love her sister as well.
