The Great Elven Mage Tournament

The bell chimed deafeningly and signified the final of the tournament. The two favourites hd been knocked out by two new up comers. The crowd roared as they walked onto the stage wearing the blue robes of a Grandmaster. The High Elf recited the magical oath before the magi became locked in combat. Lights of blue, purple and red flashed and sparkled, burning images of duelling magi on to their retinas. All of a sudden, the crowd erupted in an almighty cheer. Only one elf remained. The other lay sprawled on the floor unconscious but alive.

History

It originated from the early Mundomirum Era when elves first noticed their ability to harness magic. Over time, it gathered popularity and evolved into a national event for he most elite magi.

Execution

It begins with the tryouts. Any master or grandmaster may enter which are differentiated by their purple and blue robes. The 64 elves with the most powerful magic are selected by previous tournament champions who can sense their magical ability. It is a knock out based tournament until the 4th round where the eight remaining elves are separated into two groups and fight each other. The 2 elves who wins the most matches (if there is a draw it goes to the elf that was successful the fastest), go through to the semi finals and the winners go to the final. The winner is then crowned and given a blue robe laced with golden thread by the chief warlock. They may participate in future events as well.

Combat

Positions

All positions are created with the mage's right foot (left if left handed) out in front of them and their left foot pulled back. Wizards tend to walk in a straight line crossing their left foot behind them so the can spin to create more ferocity in their attacks

Sixte

This is where the mage has their dominant hand out in front of them and their lesser hand pulled back beside their face. A wand is out straight pointing at their opponent whereas a staff is held vertically.

Quarte

This is where the dominant hand is across the mage's body and the lesser hand is underneath the dominant arm. A wand is held perpendicular to the body however a staff is held parallel, pointing at their opponent.

Octave

This is where a mage's right hand is moved to become parallel with their bent leg ad their left arm is above their head. A wand is held straight pointing to their opponents legs whilst a staff is held perpendicular to the body.

Septime

Similar to octave however the arm is pulled across the body and the left hand is moved so it just above the mage's right arm.

Rules

  1. A mage may not step over the borders of the circular dulling platform.
  2. A mage may not teleport inside the circle.
  3. A mage may not use any permanent effect curses.
  4. A mage may not say anything but the spell they wish to do.
  5. A mage may not use the spell "Olvidaria".
  6. The mage who manages to knock the other one unconscious first wins.

Components and tools

On the 1st round, it is strictly no equipment however the 2nd round requires participants to use a wand and in the 3rd round competitors must use a staff. From then on, a wizard may use whatever method (s)he prefers.

Participants

The High Elf and Chief Warlock attend. The High elf recites the magical oath before the final but is most there for publicity whereas the Chief Warlock plays a key role. (S)He referees all the matches to spot any foul play. (S)He also presents the winner with their robe.

Observance

It takes place every 3 years in the 7th month, Seebos. The winner is crowned at midnight after the final on the 27th of Seebos.
