Reikthald
The Crossroads of the Empire
And here I thought I would never feel like I was home again, but it's impossible not to feel welcome with all these smallfolk doing everything they can to make you part of the family, even in a big city like this.- Hands Full of Cups, Nithrobian exile, after spending a week in a Reikthald hostel.

Government
Reikthald, like most cities in the Empire, is governed by a royal governor appointed by the Emperor, as well as a council of advisors with specialized fields of interest, who themselves have major legislative authority over their fields of interest. The citizens of these cities have the power to recall every member of the council, as well as the royal governor, with appeals to the Emperor and special elective action.
In Reikthald, the royal governor is Fostman Goldwheat, an elderly halfling male who has been royal governor for over 50 years.
Defences
Reikthald is home to concentric walls which each, at one point, circumscribed the city, but it continued to expand, and walls continued to be built. The roads of Reikthald and the surrounding region are also frequently patrolled by Osvenya military, less through formal placement and more through the necessity of taking the roads on the way to and from stations.
Reikthald is also home to the primary chapter house of the Opal Ravens, which makes the chapter very easy to reach by most citizens of the Empire and thus, very easy to summon the Ravens when the need arises.
Industry & Trade
The economy of Reikthald is based on agricultural products and livestock, reflected by the miles of farmland around it, but it has also become a massive trade hub for all sorts of products traveling through the Empire.
Infrastructure
Reikthald is a very large city and is situated on a solitary hill in the golden plains which occupy the central Empire. It was originally a small halfling town in the middle of expansive farmlands, but its central location led to a great deal of traffic and subsequent growth. Reikthald is now the largest city in the Empire proper, with row upon row of buildings surrounding the Cathedral of Order built on the apex of the hill. This great growth necessitated the building of multiple aqueducts and branching canals through the city to supply water to the populace. The surrounding countryside, made up almost entirely of farmland, is dotted with windmills and laced with roads.
Guilds and Factions
The Traveler Concord: As the crossroads of the Empire, Reikthald is subject to a disproportionately large amount of traffic from traveling merchants. Most of the merchants operate independently, ferrying goods to and from cities in a single wagon. However, even these independent merchants tend to be members of the Traveler Concord, an alliance of merchants interested in promoting and protecting the interests of traveling merchants.
The Hostelry: Reikthald is home to a large number of inns and taverns to accommodate its many visitors and, to regulate, record, and house these visitors, the Hostelry was formed. Born of a merchant's alliance among innkeepers, the Hostelry has expanded to include registry of all travelers in order to better keep track of visitors. Inns and taverns which refuse membership into the Hostelry are viewed as shady and disreputable.

The architecture of Reikthald defies generalization, with wildly differing structures built next to each other based purely on the builder's choices.
