The Tomb of Kings

Where the Emperors Rest

Centered within the city of Uribis Regibus lies an ancient pyramid known as the Tomb of Kings that connects to a sprawling dungeon of tombs belonging to ancient Dark Elf Emperors of the past. Now doubling as a city and trade route to the Underdark, the tombs finds itself constantly populated and explored, though much remains to be discovered of its hidden secrets.

Purpose / Function

The Tomb of Kings was a pyramid designed to house the buried remains of one of the earliest emperors of the Dark Elf Empire. At the time of its construction, it was a simple pyramidal structure, with limited rooms and a grandiose appearance. To this day, the remains of the Dark Elf Emperor X remain at the bottom of the tomb, undisturbed.

Alterations

As more Emperors came and died, they would build extensions to the first pyramid, building new one atop the old ones, and extensions from their bases. Eventually, though a combination of extensions, and a change in mass, the pyramids became a sprawling dungeon full of burial tombs and treasuries, that reached from the surface where the settlement of Uribis Regibus sits all the way to the Underdark, where the drow now reside. Because of these additions, the Tomb of Kings has become a sprawling dungeon with limited exploration, and many hidden corners yet to be discovered. Despite its dungeon-like appearance, however, the many layers on the primary path to the Underdark have become a bustling city, full of makeshift housing, and unexpected establishments, with the main path being a bazaar.

Architecture

Crafted from sandstone, lime, syenite, granite, and a forgotten form of concrete, the Tomb of Kings is designed in an older form of architecture, displaying dazzling white and gold coatings that are falling off, revealing a bricklike structure covered in pictograms depicting ancient stories of battle and conquests.

Defenses

The dungeons of the Tomb of Kings are full of traps, both magical and unmagical in nature. Mixed with its many sprawling pathways, and hidden doors, the dungeon is designed to be mazelike to prevent intruders from stealing and of the riches that the Dark Elf Emperors were buried alongside.

History

The tombs house many structures built by the Dark Elves, including many tombs, armories, treasuries, and laboratories for technological experimentation and innovation.

Tourism

Many people visit the Tomb of Kings these days, as it now acts as a bustling bazaar leading to the Underdark, and doubles as an extended city for the settlement of Uribis Regibus. Some seek to explore and unearth the secrets of the forgotten Dark Elf Culture, while others are nearly passer-bys, in search of spices and wares.
