Port Greville

The Captains Quarters

Port Greville is the largest and most flourishing village within a day's travel of Parrs Harbor. While its popularity has died down since the war, it still functions as a ship manufacturing port, and logging community. Full of sailor families and lumberjacks, the village holds enough populace to keep itself from abandonment but has left its heyday behind.

History

In the year 940 NE, a young man and his wife traversed the coastline by foot, coming to a nice bluff situated between two rivers, now known as Ratchford River to the West, and Fox River to the East. Deciding to settle in the area, they moved to tame the land, and start a farm, away from the clustering peoples of parrs Harbor. Over the years, more people would move and settle the area, until the local had become a proper settlement, and Parrs Harbor sent a cousin to become the village's Official in 963 NE.   Eventually, in 1306 NE, two prominent members of the Wagstaff and Hatfield families worked together to create the Wagstaff & Hatfield Shipyard, utilizing the nearby natural bay to utilkize lumber and start shipbuilding construction. Constructing two sheds and a mill along the northern side of the bay, they would continue to produce sea vessals to the present day. In 1412 NE, the Wagstaff & Hatfield Shipyard was bought out by the Harrisons in Parrs Harbor, who brought it under their chain of mills and shipyards, and would utilize the port during the war.

Government

Port Greville is maintained by a sub-family of the Parrs, appointed by the head family generations back. The Official serves as a judge and mediator and appoints people to help him maintain the village and reports back to Governor Parr.

Description

Port Greville is a coastal village situated along the Northern Fendu Bay region, raised around 200 ft. above sea level. The area is home to a flourishing lumber and construction industry, with their chief export being both lumber, and sailboats.

Places of Interest

The Shoreline Trail

The majority of the village is built along the Shoreline Trail, similar to Assiduous River, however, Port Greville holds a bit larger of an expanse, and population size.
  • Father’s Market: The local convenience store, selling local commodities, daily necessities, basic tools, and alcohol. Run by one of the Wagstaff families, the market is one of the most popular, and most necessary businesses in the village.
  • Church Maria: A church dedicated to the worship of ocean and storm gods, with the purpose of appeasing the gods to avoid floods and tsunamis, while achieving plentiful catches.
  • The Captain's Quarters: Found just off of Ratchford Road, the Captain’s Quarters is a local inn run by the long-retired sea captain George Merriam. The old owner of the Minas King, George, and his wife decided to turn their ancestral home into an inn and local pub to keep themselves funded through their retirement and give the village a place for the captains to gather, drink, and Duke it out on a good evening.
  • Church of Deusrex: Church dedicated to the Deusrex belief.

Fox River

While still being situated on the Shoreline Trail, Fox River is a section of housing and farmland on the west side of Port Greville that harbors a small cove.
  • Farmer's Moor: No actual structures can be found in the Fox’s Cove, however many small-scale boats are marooned on the edges, waiting for their owners to take them out for some fishing.
  • Church of the 8 Great: A Church dedicated to the praise and worship of the 8 great gods of the Princeps Pantheon.

Gabriel Hill

While the core of the village is raised from sea level, the Shoreline Trail cuts across the edge where the elevation of the land suddenly juts upwards. This area is known as Gabriel Hill, and houses more farmland, though only a few houses and bards are actually constructed up there.

West Port

On the west side of the Greville River, and the village’s port, one can find a few more farming houses amidst some larger work sites.
  • The West Port: A combination of ship construction and boat docks, this is where anything related to boats is.
  • Allen Parsons Mill: The local sawmill, where the wood for ship construction is managed, the mill is under the ownership of the Harrisons, though it isn’t their primary source of income.
