Fendu Bay

Fendu Bay is a provincial territory belonging to the country of Cahokia, located south of its main territory. The region was discovered by Cahokian explorers in 887 NE, and settled in 896 NE, with Parrs Harbor being the first settlement.. The territory is divided into many counties and barroncies all governed by sudo-nobles known as governors, and the entire territory is a ducal state under management of the Uniache Ducal Family.

Geography

The territory of Fendu Bay can be divided into two distinct geological regions north and south through the Easter channel (Cobequid Bay).

North

The northern portion of the territory is dominated by the Avalon Highlands and the Antichester Lowlands, the latter of which straddles the fault zone.   The Avalon Mountains contain the highest elevation points within the territory. This low, heavily eroded region comprises a highland across the northern portion of the territory with average elevations between 250–300 meters. It was heavily covered in sediment during glaciation; consequently, it hosts an abundant forest as well as agricultural activities.   The Antichester Lowlands includes is dominated by karst topography lending to numerous gypsum deposits. Coal seams are commonly found in the western and central areas of Antichester Lowlands in the Choggins basin and the Wintermound basin, along with the Diefenbunker basin and the Pictou basin. The region is full of hills, forests, and is used for agricultural activities.   Throughout the northern region, the lowland plains, rolling uplands, and coastal fringe areas support numerous settlements, many of which developed around mineral extraction, farming, lumber, and naval trade.

South

In addition to sharing the Antichester Lowlands, the southern portion of the territory is dominated by the Glaccap Interior, followed by the comparatively small Annapolis Lowlands, and the Fendu Coast.   The Glaccap Interior is dominated by a glacial landscape of exposed granitic rock, thick forest, drumlins, and numerous lakes. The Glaccap Lowlands comprise many river valleys and lowland inland areas in the southwest and central portion of the territory. The South Mountain is a steadily rising slope that descends sharply at the Vasilikopolis Valley but more gradually toward the Confractus Ocean, resulting in a plateau across much of the southwest interior of the territory with average elevations of 150 m and maximum elevations of 275 m. Slate ridges are prominent along the boundary with the Antichester Lowlands.   The Fendu Coast region includes the North Mountain ridge as well as the Conway Neck and the Économie Mountain areas along the north side of the Minas Basin. The Confractus Coast region includes the barren and wind-swept regions, extending several kilometers inland.   The Triassic Lowlands is an area of soft sandstone, much of which is covered by water resulting from sea-level rise. The remnant is the open-ended Vasilikopolis Valley which is sheltered by the Fendu Coast and the Glaccap Interior, providing a microclimate unique to the region and conducive to fruit and vegetable farming.

Ecosystem Cycles

The Fendu Bay region experiences similar cycles to that of the real world, with four main seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall, & Winter) affecting the region at any given time. Summer is warm and the crop is plentiful, fall sees a shift in the region as temperatures drop, the mists start to form, and plant life starts to die, and birds migrate south. Winter covers the land in snow, temperatures drop, animals enter hibernation, or struggle to survive in the frozen landscape, suffering from winter famines. Finally, spring brings about a thawing, snow melts, plants bloom, animals wake up and return to the region, and rain and flooding become prominent in lowland regions.

Localized Phenomena

People who are exploring the Fendu Bay region must be wary of Dying Gloom, often referred to as the mists or fogs of the demised. At night, during the seasons of Spring, Summer, and Fall, rivers of mist and fog will form across the lands of Fendu, flowing through unforeseen paths across the lands, floating from the many mountains and hills, and flowing across the many rivers and lakes of the province.   For reasons unknown to most, the mists attract the attention of any and all unintelligent undead, with skeletons and zombies walking along the path of the mist, and ghosts and spirits being trapped inside the rivers, incapable of leaving even if they wanted to.   It is believed by the indigenous cultures of the region that the mists are paths to the afterlife, leading the many thousands of undead throughout the region into the great bay, where their spirits will leave this world, and their bodies will be reduced to dust by the currents of the bay.

Natural Resources

The Fendu Bay is a region that is rich in minerals and natural resources. Manganite, Barite, and Goethite are all found throughout the many mines spread throughout the territory. Mining is popular throughout Fendu Bay, with settlements such as Wintermound, and Townshend mining a lot of coal. Coal is one major natural resource in the Fendu Bay as well as the forestry, and the fishing industry. Fishing and fish can be found at any of the Capes, Inlets, or Bays. Great growing soil is also very common throughout the Fendu Bay region. The soil is very rich in sediments and harvests fruits and vegetables well.
