The Nautical School of Portland

Walking down the clean wharf of East Portland will bring you to a school called Falni's Hand. The stone work to this school, is as decoratively worked as the stained glass windows of what many, call a castle, topped, with a reaching lighthouse. Walking through the great stone, arched, wooden doorway. Nautical themed paintings, and displays, of types of knots adorn the walls leading to the separate class rooms. Up the grand stair case, exhibits the wealth of the school, for the rails and fixtures are of silver plated cast aluminum, imported from the dwarves. The upper rooms hold a nautical library bulging with maps, and charts, books detailing how, the great merchant ships of Portland can traverse the world. Notable a copy of Falni Burgess's Travel's Through the Mists of the Rimworld, resides in a glass display case within the library.   Despite the wealth of the school on clear display. The classes here are not out of the reach for the children of most tradespeople of Portland. Most ship captains and boat owners employ incentives to their sailors in the form of credits to their children to receive education here. Investors and the nobles of Portland understand the value of trained sailors operating their vessels for it contributes a vast deal to speed, efficiency, and reduces the risk of losing their valuable cargo to the sea. In addition the school receives tax money to help further reduce the cost of tuition.   The bulk of the classes here pertain to learning the trade skills of sailors. But arthritic and language skills are also taught here as those tend to be useful to the sailors trading with the many culture that they do. Additionally those such classes tend to have extra enrollments by the children of non sailors who can afford it.
