Unidentified by Willful Ignorance: The Exploitation of UFOs

Unidentified by Willful Ignorance is the most recent of William Randall's many books on unidentified flying objects (UFOs). In it, Randall lays out the way select information on a great number of "significant cases" which "prove UFOs are ET craft" have been hidden from the public in order to present the notion that these cases truly are unexplained. Randall's central thesis is that the source of the so-called cover-up is not the government or any of its agents, but perfectly civilian actors looking out for their own interests.   Willful Ignorance uses several key cases across the spectrum of UFO sightings and experiences (from chasing lights in the sky and unidentified blips to abductions and contact claims), across the phenomenon's history, to make this case. Randall personally investigated each case he presents, with help from his colleagues where they had key expertise on a given subject (such individuals are listed where they come up within the text).   The seeming aberration in his work is the Esterholt, Ohio, case. When Randall combed through the available evidence (at the behest of Nat Atrella), most of it supplied by local new UFO group Ohio Saucer Watch, he began to develop particular suspicions. It would be some time before he fully articulated them, but in Willful Ignorance he notes that:
This is either the best-documented close encounter of the third kind, or the most elaborate hoax, on record. It makes one wonder why only six people in a basement are investigating what could be the most momentous event in human history.
There is a second edition of Unidentified by Willful Ignorance which elaborates on new findings in that particular case. It was slated for publishing just around the time Ta'zhen made her first appearance in Esterholt in seven years, and as such comments that the missing girl had yet to be found, and the police department still considered the case cold.

Purpose

As with all of Randall's books, white papers, essays, and other public commentary on the subject of UFOs, Randall's main goal with Willful Ignorance is to make plain all available facts. If a given reader still believes a case is legitimate, he will disagree with them, but consider it their business. (The one exception to this is the above-described Esterholt affair, on which even he is stuck between two competing hypotheses. To date, he has yet to come to a conclusion.)

Publication Status

The book has been available to the public wherever books are sold since 2498 (2016). That being said, among certain circles it is staunchly avoided like the plague, and other circles just lack interest in it.
