Magellania

Southern Subcontinent of Mu

Geography

The continent of Magellania is the southern part of Mu, it is separated from Cipangu roughly at the height of the equator.   Magellania is far more arid than its northern counterpart. The central parts are dominated by the Great Magellanian Desert . The Magellanian Cordilleras in the north separate the northern coast from the interior, creating in its raindshadow the large desert at the centre of the continent. The north itself is mostly tropical and humid. The large central desert divides the continent, its south-eastern parts are almost an entire subcontinent on its own, different in climate and especially biosphere.   The south western coast of Magellania is called Chaluma. This area is also one of the cradles of civilisation, giving rise to native urbanism on Mu. Further east follows the regions called Artemisia by european explorers. The easternmost part of Magellania is called Bilao or Nuevo León by spanish conquerors.

Fauna & Flora

Magellania has been separated from the rest of the world since the middle Mesozoic. It has therefore preserved several unique lineages.

Hey there FloZone! First off, let me say thank you for following my world. I know it's just starting off but still really appreciate it. I've been wanting to talk to you a bit if you would be up to that. I love the maps you've made and I really would like to know how you went about it. I want to make maps like yours but not sure how to go about it. If you could give me some pointers that would be really awesome!

All my maps so far are made with gimp. So I know I should get into vector graphics to make resizing and that easier and use more different kinds of projections. Yet I haven't so far. The basic process is to have a map. Then I remake it in more detail. I make it larger. Or I redo a certain area and so on. Involves lots of repition and in my opinion I could have it easier. Idk if you have looked for it yet, but I posted a lot of stuff about Mu on reddit so far also and there you can see a rough process. Basically going from rougher maps to more detailed ones. Having one large at the beginning, then focusing on one area, then expanding the whole thing to have same detail everywhere and so on.

I actually have found your stuff on Mu over on reddit. It was how I first came across your work. Really awesome stuff, I must say. You've made the place into its own living, breathing setting with amazing maps to boot. I've heard of gimp but I haven't tried it myself. I've had to use windows paint a lot. I kind of get lost when trying to use stuff like photoshop. I've tried out krita and fire alpaca, but I haven't really been able to get a real understanding of either of them.   I once made a map of Egypt entirely in windows paint. A friend was kind enough to clean it up with better lines. I have it posted on my deviantart page.
