The Rite of the Age of Enlightment

Upon reaching the age of 20, each individual of Drakainan blood celebrates becoming Enlightened. On the second day of the New Year, any youth who has reached their 20th birthday participates in the rite of passage into adulthood. When Enlightened, truth, spirituality, and knowing become the life quest. The individual's focus becomes peace, trust, faith, and understanding of all things.   Garbed entirely in white - the color of hope and new beginnings - the young people gather at the town center and wait for the tribe's Grandfather to appear. Immediately upon his arrival, the youth will recite the Oath of Awareness.
On this second day of the new year, having reached my twentieth, I pledge my fealty to enlightenment. I pledge to seek understanding of the world and all its peoples, to preserve knowledge some may seek to destroy, and to protect and ensure that knowledge will not be abused by the Evil One and its followers. I maintain this promise above all others and will strive to continue to teach all who seek knowledge.
Following the recitation of the oath, the Grandfather offers each youth a single swallow of the Sahasra - a tonic critical to enlightenment - which clears the mind of all unnecessary thoughts, allows for deep meditation to occur, and begins to strengthen singular mindfulness. The Sahasra is a secret blend of sage, lavender, and juniper known only to The Grandfather.   For three days following the rite, the youth will remain clothed in white and their only nourishment is Juniper Tea, for the juniper berry is said to cleanse the soul of all evil that may be buried deeply, and make one pure and true to oneself. The tea is also known for helping the youth learn to set boundaries and stand true to The Faith.
