Thrumming Pines
The thrumming pines are the most common type of tree on Morzanna. They populate the vast Needlewoods. The trees are adapted for survival in cold environments. Even with their adaptations, however, it is unlikely that these plants would survive without their special connection to the natural magic of the planet.
The origin of the "thrumming" moniker for these plants comes from magically sensitive individuals who encounter them in the wild. When someone who is in tune with magical forces walks through these woods, it becomes clear that the trees are able to harness wild magic to assist in their survival, even in the harsh winter months of Morzanna. This use of magic creates a perception of a barely audible vibration originating from each tree.
This application of magic defies many of the normal rules as we know them. The cost of will that is associated with the use of magical energies doesn't seem to apply to these plants. Or perhaps, the plants have a will of their own, and it simply isn't obvious to our limited perception of the world. Perhaps if we could learn how to get in touch with the will of these plants, we too could walk the Needlewoods without fear of the deadly cold.
As it stands, it is not possible to replicate the warming effect of the pines. The needles, cones, and resin of these plants do make excellent catalysts for fire and heat magic, though they are consumed very quickly.

The specific forms of these plants can vary from small bushy shrubs and growths to full, tall trees. The common factors are that they grow needles rather than leaves, produce cones, and are resinous. They perform a chemical and magical process known as hardening, which causes these plants to be highly resistant to freezing. This is what allows these plants to survive outside of a haven through the harsh winter.
