Grand Admiral of the Fharyne Navy

It is my great honor to bestow this most coveted position to a man who has undoubtedly earned it; a true hero of the Kingdom of Fharyn. Admiral Charles Cunning has served the Fharyne Navy at the highest level for the last twenty years, and has demonstrated his ability and character on countless occasions. He has worked tirelessly ever since he was a Chief Officer to make the lands of the Kingdom more lawful, safer places for our citizens to prosper. As the pirate threat attempts to challenge the tenacity and strength of Fharyn, we answer with our best and brightest, and none are better nor brighter than Admiral Cunning.

Qualifications

The position of Grand Admiral is the highest in the Fharyne Navy, as they report only to the monarch and their council. As such, it only goes to the most qualified individuals. Typically, it is only bestowed to those who have served in the Navy in some capacity for twenty years or more, and have demonstrated dedication and excellence. Loyalty is also an important quality; rarely has the position of Grand Admiral gone to an individual with a penchant for bending the rules or questioning orders.

Appointment

Appointment to this position is a grand affair, as Fharyn's navy is one of its greatest assets. There is a ceremony presided over by the monarch themselves, and they are the person who bestows the symbolic sword and sash to the new Grand Admiral. There is also a speech given by the monarch's war adviser announcing the appointee and their qualifications for the position.

Responsibilities

The Grand Admiral is responsible for the deployment and command of all Fharyne naval vessels, including those in adjacent or specified branches such as the Fharyne Defense Fleet. During times of war, the Grand Admiral is tasked with the development and execution of naval battle strategy, and as such they can appoint a council to advise them.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The Grand Admiral shares the same base uniform as other Fharyne Navy officers: Blue jacket, white undershirt and cravat, white breeches, white stockings, brown shoes. However, they are kitted out with all manner of accessories to denote their high position. In place of the typical gold buttons on the uniform jacket, the buttons on the Grand Admiral's jacket are silver and match the silver epaulets adorning both shoulders. All medals of service and honor are prominent on the left breast of the uniform, and stretching from the right shoulder to the left hip is the crimson and silver sash which marks the individual as the Grand Admiral. They also bear a special ceremonial rapier on their belt, which is a finely crafted and ornate piece that is by no means fit for actual combat.
