Fairy Forest

The Fairy Forest is massive, dense, old growth mixed forest in south central Qemt'Or, bordering Lake Boorghast to the south, the Black Mountains to the east and west, and the Qemti Steppes to the north and northeast. This forest is the subject of many myths and legends, but in truth not much is known about it. Some rural villages abut Fairy Forest, yet the children are warned from a young age to never enter it. Parents tell their children that if they enter it, they will never return. The alleged reasons for these disappearances vary from village to village, and sometimes simply from person to person and even day by day.   Some say that those who enter the forest become lost in a magical mist and if you listen closely on dark nights you can still hear them yelling for help. Some say that the forest is inhabited by an old witch who lures people into her home with sweet smelling foods, only to capture them and eat them. Some say that the entrance to hell is the forest, and its inhabited by evil spirits that managed to wander out of the depths. Some say that the Green Knight dwells there and takes people away to become his demonic squires. But the most popular myth is that the forest is named after its inhabitants. These so called "fairies" vary in description depending on the person speaking of them - from giant bloodthirsty beasts to tiny mischievous pranksters who charm their victims into staying in the forest until they die of old age.   The reality is certainly much more mundane. No serious research has gone into the study of the Fairy Forest, but surely this is just another old wives' tale, right? The world will probably never know. There doesn't seem to be any reason to enter it - it is still a deep, dark, dense forest after all - full of wolves, bears, owlbears, and worse.
