Monster World

A world where humans and monsters are simply two balanced halves of the same spirit, but this truth has been rejected and forgotten. Now, human society lives in fear that anybody could 'devolve' into a feral beast if they fail to maintain their humanity. Meanwhile, some individuals are born to walk the line between human and monster and wield the great power of the beasts within themselves, but societal double standard simultaneously celebrates these heroes while condemning those who struggle to reject part of themselves. They say that to be human is to be better than a beast, to not give into your instincts, to shun the beast within, yet the supremacy of humanity is never more than a step away from their repressions showing through the thin veneer of civility.   This human civilization finds itself in the shell of a ruined city, struggling to grow and expand even as they stifle their own spirits and repress their needs. Into this charged tension comes a new mystery cult/counterculture movement professing to embrace the truth of nature and release the spirit from the shackles of civilization. Its leader is a charismatic man who seeks only to exploit his revolutionaries to take power, while society is caught between its yearning for freedom and its fear of itself and what they are capable of. Meanwhile, more and more people have begun to receive mysterious, vivid, and wordless dreams of great beasts walking the streets of their fine city, of walking among them. Could all this have something to do with the tides of stale magic that play havoc with the city's fragile power grid, and how might it be linked to an upset in the balance of the spirit world?   As the author of this world, I would love to know.
