Thulean Trolls

Thulean trolls live in eastern Mon Cadeau in the mountains. Some people live in the two towns, Skorravik and Borgarholt, primarily descendants of the Vikings, hardy people built for cold temperatures. Trolls can survive in harsh winter climates on little food. They live in caves and only come out during the night, as sun turns them to stone. Many rock formations are believed to be petrified trolls. They are known for luring people to their caves and eating them. They do not take kindly to surprises and will attack if they perceive a threat. However, if they will also reward people who help them. Trolls are various shades of blue and white, blending in with the snowy mountains. They are ten feet tall with tall horns and sharp teeth. Their eyes are colorless, and male trolls are blind. They can wield ice magic and cast basic evocation spells. Some wear a single loincloth, some nothing at all. They also have markings, possibly carvings, on their bodies, though it is unclear what these mean. Trolls are slow and unintelligent and relatively easy for a capable warrior or mage to defeat. Due to the rise of Master Mages, Thulean trolls are an endangered species, with only perhaps fifty remaining in the mountains. They are vulnerable to metals, particularly steel, but resist fire magic. They can see through illusions and cannot have their minds enchanted or be raised as thralls. Legend has it that trolls were once people who angered the gods and were transformed and banished to the mountains. However, due to the lack of scientific understanding in Mon Cadeau, this theory cannot be proven or disproven. Few people outside of the two aforementioned villages believe in trolls at all, though they are included in literary and historical texts in the archives at Karlsfell College.
