To'vah-krav

To’vah-krav is Draconic for “Dragonchild,” a half-blood born from a female of a younger sentient race by a To'vah sire. No hybrids with a To’vah mother and young-race sire are known, as only male Dragons have made themselves known as guardians of their Territories.

In addition, these mixed bloods do not come about by carelessness or impulsive lust. This rare birth only has a chance of beginning first by extremely deliberate action and care from the To’vah sire.

General Appearance

The appearances of the To’vah-krav vary widely based on the specifics of both parents, but their physical traits always include a tail and metallic-colored eyes gained from their sire. A Dragonchild also inherits the instinct to collect and hoard treasure, which will become both a critical bond to their magic and a source of potential conflict with the younger races.

Typically, these half-bloods are “trapped” in their birth form until they learn to change shape on their own. The extent to which they can shapeshift depends on the individual. A Dragonchild’s survival and potential to grow their hoard often depends on an ability to blend in or reach an equilibrium with the younger races. If they cannot, the hybrid is most likely to live apart from the largest sentient settlements and embrace the wilderness.

Culture and Heritage

To’vah Dragons tend to be choosy, not just about his mate but the community which his mate comes from, because a Dragonchild bears some of the most potent magical heritage on Miurag. Even if the young-race mother had no magic affinity at all (rare), her child would become a mage with significant potential.

A To’vah-krav is almost always adopted into the culture of their mother, effectively given as orphans. Even though the mother receives food, care, and protection during her pregnancy from the To’vah, no younger race has yet to survive giving birth to a Dragonchild. The To’vah’s mate may or may not know at the time of conception that bearing a child of one of the oldest race is a death sentence for her.

The To’vah sire will always care for the infant during their most vulnerable years, but before the Dragonchild starts developing clear memories of their father, he brings them to a community receptive to accepting the child as one of their own. Most often it is the same community who raised the mother, assuming they are thriving and capable.

Magic

Magical affinities among To’vah-krav tend to be strongly elemental and linked to their sire’s native language. Mystical dreams and growing hoards help connect this affinity with the Dragonchild’s waking ability to speak and practice.

A half-blood can also learn the magic of his mother’s people provided they have a tutor and enough time, but the To’vah magic comes by instinct and cannot be taught to another without a To’vah affinity.
