Tamuril lu' Marikoth

Tamuril lu' Marikoth

Tamuril lu'Marikoth

(tam'-uhr-ihl loo-mar'-ih-koth) , is a Naulor Elf born in Galad Bahr within the Druid's Grove.

Tamuril is as tall as many Paxian Human men with similar coloring, but with a slender and willowy build. She has golden-blonde hair reaching her mid-back and bright green eyes that change shades with the plants around her. Her pale skin easily shows a blush when she feels heightened emotion, which is often.

Extremely cautious and shy in showing herself, she is often mistaken for a forest spirit or ghost if any catch a glimpse of her. The Druid possesses a long stride to quickly travel and disappear through the trees in her preferred wilderness.

Tamuril has an animal companion always near her when outside of Galad Bahr, a devoted and fiercely protective falcon named Pilla. Where the Druid may seem timid or frightened in confrontation with another sentient, her falcon is equally bold and aggressive in challenging intruders and defending the Naulor Elf.

Background

In Galad Bahr, the place of an edain in society is dependent upon her male relations. Born Tamuril syl'Wovinkoth, she was her father's only child. Upon his passing, she became Tamuril lu'Marikoth as she came under the guardianship of her elder half-brother, the Compeller Marikoth of the Sepham. No other edain in Galad Bahr shared the distinction of a recognized blood relation to a Golden Priest.

Her male relatives and their relationship with her mother afforded Tamuril a privileged youth. She received earlier recognition of her magic than most daughters and was granted a tutor in Amondaer, an Odad Druid and widower who had outlived his Wife and remained childless.

Under the distracted and distant guardianship of a young, devout brother rising to a destined position, Tamuril welcomed the daily care and education from the elder male, often ignoring her mother's advice in keeping mindful of Marikoth's approval in favor of Amondaer's kind smile and warm encouragement. The youth possessed an obvious talent for helping plants grow with robust health, though as she matured, her magic blossomed further, its potential touching those Naulor around her.

When asked about certain events by her brother and Priest, the young Guded credited her new, flushed joy to her "pure love" for her Odad, Amondaer. "He makes me shine!" she said. "I want to be his Wife, and him to be my Husband! Please, my brother, I ask for your blessing."

Having only known amiable relationships between her male guardians before, Tamuril didn't recognize the cause of the change between Marikoth and Amondaer until it was too late to have her greatest wish as both a sister and a Wife.

Current

Despite interested suitors, Marikoth never found a Husband worthy for Tamuril, nor did he offer another Druid tutor to guide her talents. Set adrift among male guardians merely fencing her perimeter and whispering behind their hands, the young Druid mourned Amondaer in private.

Soon after, Tamuril met another lonely daughter, her elder by three centuries. An orphan, Krithannia syl'Saeldaer lived inside the Sepham as she was to be Marikoth's future Wife. Krithannia was also a mage, aiding Galad Bahr in the balance of water and air where Tamuril aided plants and animals, and the two edains found their magic could work together; they could learn together. Fortunately, Marikoth approved of their friendship, which grew to be sisters of the heart, if not in blood.

Sometimes, Krithannia would disappear for days at a time yet be unable to tell Tamuril where she'd been. While this was unsettling to them both, for a time the sisters simply continued with their pleasant and comfortable life and did not speak of it. Then, one day, Krithannia confided in Tamuril, whispering of their ancestors, the Stormseekers.

"Who are they, sister? What is a storm that you would seek it?"

Her dark-haired sister admitted that she'd found a way to the Outside, and she took Tamuril with her to share her discovery. It was the first storm that either edain had experienced, and neither would ever forget. While this chaotic wilderness beckoned and tempted Krithannia to disobedience many times, it kept the Druid frightened and safe in her Grove.

Although Marikoth's Wife's activities were discovered in short time and justifiably punished, Tamuril had kept the secret; her brother had not learned this from her own confessions. The blonde Druid had expected their lives would continue once again, but instead she saw Krithannia less and less. Something had changed, but Marikoth wouldn't tell her what.

Not until the morning the Druid tended his broken nose, and he disavowed her with one brutal statement: "I have no Wife."

Tamuril cried bitterly at this new loss, believing she would never see Krithannia again. She would not know if her "Stormseeker" still lived, either on the Outside or within, until the day Queen Yivon summoned her through her brother.

Her confession was at last given to the Divine Wife. "Yes, I have been Outside."

It only brought what Tamuril feared.

"With your magic, you will not starve," said the Queen. "With your bond to your brother, you shall be anchored. Before Marikoth chooses a Husband, you shall serve some time as Our Observer."

"How much time, Your Majesty?"

"We shall decide when the time is right."

It was made clear: Tamuril was to leave home, to find their runaway orphan in the wilderness, and bring her sister home.
