The Xarian Rebellion Military Conflict in Misremembered Realms | World Anvil

The Xarian Rebellion

The kingdom of Veritous was once a small and somewhat secluded kingdom. It was ruled by a wise and benevolent mage king who was well loved by his people. When the king was crowned the lands surrounding the kingdom were rocky and of middling quality for growing corps. At the time most mages kept to themselves and their own studies, using their own magic however they wished in order to improve their own lives. The king saw potential in what they had and sought to change this. He decided to form a council of mages who would serve in the capacities of mages, administrators, and advisors to him. He traveled throughout his kingdom personally and interviewed people, both common and noble, who were already arcane practitioners, or who appeared to have great potential for the art. Over time a council of seven mages was formed. One of the first tasks he set them to was learning magic that could be used to help the kingdom improve and develop. It was through the magics of the king and his council the land was made fertile and green and became the envy of the surrounding lands.
Though he had been treated well and lifted up from the live of a commoner, one of the mages, called Xarian, grew jealous of the king and it began to fester in his heart. He was a particularly gifted mage, perhaps more-so than the king himself, and in his hubris decided that he should be the one to rule the kingdom.
Over time this jealousy only continued to grow, and he began to set into motion plans to usurp the thrown. Over time through powerful and subtle magics, as well as some less mundane ones he began to turn the other six mages to his side. He gradually convinced them that he would make a better king, and that if he became king they would live lives of comfort and ease.
Eventually he led the council in what is known as The Xarian Rebellion. It may have gone off flawlessly, but the king's guards were observant and caught wind that someone was planning to kill the king. Because of this they were ready and more guards had been set to protect the king than Xarian and the six expected to be there when they arrived to slay the king. Still, it was not enough to overcome the combined might of the council. What followed was a small, but bloody coup in which the guards were brutally defeated, and Xarian was victorious.
It is unknown how the kingdom fared after the death of the king. What is known about the kingdom of Veritous is gleaned only from fragments of historical texts such as the one from which this was copied.

So, I thought I replied, but it didn't seem to go through. It could just be me doing something wrong. Either way, I wanted to take the time to try again and respond so here it is. I did really enjoy participating in SummerCamp this year. Even more than I thought I would, honestly! I love world building, but these days adult responsibilities take up so much of my time, I don't get to it like I would like even when I have a bit of free time. SummerCamp gave me something to work towards, and though I only expected I'd hit copper at most, I was surprised at how much I was able to come up with and create when I put aside the time and focused on it. I never thought I'd make it all the way to diamond, and I enjoyed it even more than I thought I would! It was a great learning experience, and was a real pleasure to create, even the difficult ones haha. This one was one of those difficult ones at first, but I hope it came out ok and is enjoyable to whoever happens to read it. I am very thankful for this amazing software, and even more so for the great community that has gathered around it. Thank you for your amazing work with both of those!
