The Hall of Resolve Building / Landmark in Misremembered Realms | World Anvil

The Hall of Resolve

The Hall of Resolve is a building in Ashamaal used resolving disagreements both small and large, simple and complex. For any judgment to be binding, it must be made in the Room of Revealing, which prohibits any lies from being told within it through powerful magic.
Most disagreements are resolved fairly and efficiently. The two parties in disagreement enter and each are given the opportunity to present their case. After this is done, the judge may call for additional witnesses if necessary, but usually this isn't necessary. The judge takes time to come to a decision and then makes a ruling and the two parties accept the judgment and leave the room.
For more serious crimes, a jury is gathered to hear the case. After hearing each party's case, and the testimony of any witnesses, the jury is given time to deliberate. Once they come to a decision, they present it those present. After hearing the verdict the judge will decide the appropriate punishment, which is then carried out in a timely manner.

Purpose / Function

To resolve disputes and render verdicts regarding crimes.

Architecture

The Hall of Resolve is an ornate stone structure carved into the sandstone of a Mesa within Ashamaal. It's borders fade into the natural stone of the mesa from which it is carved. It's facade is carved with high stone pillars, between each is carved intracate geometric paterns of varying design. Along the top is an arch engraved with words in an ancient language and iconography of justice and the gods.

History

The Hall began as just one relatively small room known as the Room of Revealing, which is still the primary room in use today, though it was smaller then, and less ornate. Over time, as the town and it's needs grew, so did the Hall, eventually becoming the beautiful work of art and symbol of justice that it is today.

Tourism

Many tourists stop and stare at the beauty and artistry that is the outside face of the Hall, but few are allowed in, and few who are are happy about it when they are as tours of the building are rare.
