Shimmer

The Shimmer are a secret organization few outside themselves know exist. Their purpose is to bring about the age of prosperity and peace prophesied in the prophecy of the The Sleeping King. They teach that he is not just a great king of legend, but a child of a deity himself who will one day rule over all of the world and build a true utopia. In the background they are constantly searching for the resting place of their king. They believe that for him to return they must prove themselves worthy of his return and so work to bring the world closer to a united whole to prove their worth and pave the way for his return. They will know that they have done this, and proven their steadfastness, when they discover his resting place once more.

They are a strongly pacifistic organization with a well connected information network who use diplomacy and bureaucracy like weapons to further their goal and abhor violence. For many of them, though not all, this distaste for violence leads to them adopting a vegetarian diet as well.

They and The Flicker descended from the same original organization and were once one and the same. From the original organization, two groups gradually formed. One believing that violence is never acceptable in promoting their cause, and another who, while they avoided violence when possible, believed that this was extreme adherence to pacifism was naive. At first they were able to set aside their differences knowing they were working towards the same goal. At some point, however, the something caused a permanent division between them. While they maintain each others secrets and do not work to actively hinder the other, they know longer work together as they once did, and neither is quite as strong as they once were.
