Carim

The title of Carim is given to the Safreen who contributes the most to furthering their people, and most embodies their ideals. There is no one way to earn the title. It could be through a single great act, or a thousand small ones. The first holder of this title and the one for whom it is named, is the honored Carim the Generous.
Carim is credited with the founding of Ashamaal. In his early years, Ashamaal was little more than a waystation in Sindar, but he claimed that, even then, he saw its potential. He spent the first quarter of his life making a name for himself as a great trader, traveling far and wide making a fortune. It is claimed that he didn't make his wealth through any great skill in haggling, but through an almost prescient ability to know what goods were needed and where they would be needed. As his wealth grew, he started putting more and more of his money into building up Ashamaal as a trading post. Since most of his trade was in what was needed, most of his goods that were more luxury than need found their way to his shops in Ashamaal, where those who truly desired them could come and purchase them. Carim found those in whom he saw potential of character and appropriate skills and hired them to work in or run his shops there. Those wealthy enough to travel to purchase his goods were happy to find any comfort or luxury available to them there as well, which was most welcome after the journey.
In time, the outpost grew into a booming settlement renowned for it's goods and the services it offered and started to become self sustaining. When Carim saw this he declared that Ashamaal was no longer his to claim, and had become a jewel which belonged to all of the Safreen people. He then distributed his wealth among the citizens of the town, giving over full control of his businesses and interests there. He then returned to doing what he always had done and traveled the world trading supplies to those who needed them.
In honor of his generosity, and in large part, creating the most prosperous place in all of Sindar the newly formed council created the title of Carim and declared that from then on he, and any future bearers of the title, would be welcome in any dwelling of Safreen. With the title he was given the sobriquet "the Generous" as others have been given sobriquets fitting to their deeds.
