Varenburg

The metropolis of Varenburg was created in 1990 through the formal merger of the four cities that had already become the metropolis of Nuremberg/Fürth/Erlangen/Schwabach in the Bavarian territorial reform of 1972.

After Munich, Varenburg is the largest metropolis in Bavaria and ranks 6th among the largest cities in Germany. Although the metropolis lags Munich in importance, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations and is one of the most important economic centres.

Due to the age of its predecessor cities, Varenburg is the resting place of a whole series of Methuselahs. Some even claim that there is an Antediluvian resting under the castle hill.

About 1% of the population belongs to the upperclass and has over €5,000 per month, while the middle class has about €2,000 per month. Everybody earning less is considered as lower class, which will make up 75% of the total populace.

The crime rate of Varenburg is 9%, of which 25% are murders. The most committed crimes are theft, assault and sexual crimes like rape. Only 2% of the committed crimes are solved within the city, and it is a well-known secret that paying enough results in the police watching in another direction.

Government

The city of Varenburg is governed by a city council. The seats of this council are divided between the four former cities and some important companies within the city's borders. Mainly these are:

To prevent the companies from leaving the city, they were granted seats in the city council which grants them more power than in every other city or country in the World. The Burgermeister is usually a member of Varenburg's Upper Class, which defines the difference between social classes even more. While rich people, especially company leaders or politicians, can do anything they want, while members of the lower class have to think about how they'll survive the next day.

The crime rate in Varenburg is the highest in Bavaria, and the police prove themselves as corrupt every day, so many crimes are never solved.

Cainite Government

Camarilla (Former Nuremberg)

Nuremberg already belonged to the ancestral lands of the Ventrue in the Dark Ages, so it is not surprising that this part of Varenburg is now ruled by the Camarilla.

The Prince

Prince Robert Fischer is a 10th Generation Ventrue. He was embraced during the Second World War when he returned wounded from the Eastern Front to his home city of Nuremberg. His parents, unlike their son, were among the most zealous supporters of Hitler in the pre-war period. For this reason alone, the family could preserve the not inconsiderable fortune.

Robert is a tall, broad-shouldered man, with piercing, ice-blue eyes and accurately cut, white-blond hair. His movements are quick and precise, his facial expression usually hard and impenetrable.

Among the younger Kindred of the city, he is considered incorruptible and unemotional. He rules his part of Varenburg with a firm hand and does not tolerate any interaction with the Sabbat. However, he is also a great advocate of the unwritten tradition "Don't get caught".

The Seneschal

Johann Treiber is a Tremere of the 11th Generation. He has served as the Seneschal of the domain since his predecessor was destroyed by a Sabbat pack in 1814.

The dark-haired Tremere is considered to be sociable, although a little too meticulous and sometimes absent-minded. He is relatively small with about 170cm, his features are sharply cut and suggest an ascetic life as a mortal.

Neither his age nor his origin are known for certain, although some suspect that he came to Nuremberg from Vienna at the end of the 19th century, perhaps even in the wake of a diplomat.

The Sheriff

The Sheriff of the domain is Karim Nadir, a Toreador of the 9th Generation. Karim came to Nuremberg in the 50s of the last century as the son of Italian immigrants. His mother was Italian, his father of Persian descent.

Already in his mortal life he perfected the fight with the scimitar into an art form, which caught the attention of his creator, who embraced him when Karim turned 20 years old.

The sarcastic Toreador has been the sheriff in the domain for 20 years now.

Infrastructure

Public Transport

There are several possibilities to go around the city by public transportation methods. Busses start at nearly every larger street within the city and start every 15 minutes. The subway is limited to bind the city centres of Fürth and Nuremberg together. It'll run every 5 minutes, around the clock. Trams access most parts of the main city area on a 20 minute schedule.

Private Transport

If you want to access the city from the suburbs or go around the suburbs you will have to go by car. The parking situation within the city core is bad though, and you have to pay a lot for a parking space there. In some areas cars are forbidden and you have to park the car at the nearest train station to continue your ride with public transportation. Especially in touristic areas of the city you will have no access with a car.

History

The city of Varenburg consists of the four former cities Nuremberg, Fürth, Erlangen and Schwabach, which were merged into the statistic unit of "Metropolitan Nuremberg" in the year of 1972. In the following years several votes to actually merge the cities were denied, until the final vote was accepted in 1989. Following the events of the german reunion the cities were merged into the modern city of Varenburg.

To keep the unique feeling each of the cities had, it was decided to have four major counties within the city, which are called like the former cities that made them. The gaps in between were replanned and rebuilt with a straight grid-pattern and tall, narrow houses built with the typical sandstone of that area. Due to the rapid growth at the end of the millenium, the city has a huge number of homeless people, who mainly roam around the Nuremberg-Part of Varenburg.

Geography

Varenburg consists of the former Metropolis Nuremberg. That construct was created in 1972 and comprised the cities of Nuremberg, Fürth, Erlangen and Schwabach to one statistic construct. The four cities are located at both sides of the Pegnitz- and Rednitz River and grew together in a natural way, until the city borders were no longer clear and recognizable.

Today the city of Varenburg is surrounded by some of the oldest temperate rainforests in germany, especially the Reichswald.
