Protectorate
The Protectorate of Varenburg is a group of five 5th generation vampires. They are the primary reason Camarilla, Sabbath and Anarch can coexist in the city. The protectorate does not openly appear as long as the conflict between the sects does not flare up so much that it threatens the masquerade.
Silence. Where a moment ago there were lively conversations to be heard, there was nothing now. Only the enervating, monotonous tock, tock, tock of a cane on the marble floor, interrupted by steady steps, still cut the air. It lasted. One minute. Two. Then the door of the Elysium flew open.
A man entered the room. Tall and slender, dressed in a suit that clearly came from Victorian England. His icy gaze glided over those present, his finger, wrapped in a silver ring of limbs, tapping impatiently on the cane.
When he raised his voice, it seemed like an icy cold downpour. "You were too loud."
He directed his gaze at some Cainites present. His steps were firm, measured. Every vampire he approached was frozen, unable to move. He raised his hand and pulled the limb ring over the face of each vampire. A warning.
When he had finished his work, he looked around once more. "Keep the noise down."
He turned away without another word and left the room. Before the doors had closed behind him, the head of a vampire fell from his shoulders. All that remained was a pile of ashes.
A warning, indeed.
Members of the Protectorate
Roland Färber
Fifth Generation AssamiteRoland Färber is the member of the protectorate, which is most likely to appear in public. He is the one who delivers the warnings and the one who carries out the more bloody executions when they become necessary.
The tall man was born in Nuremberg and grew up there until he was abducted and embraced by Assamites in the Holy Land around 1040. He returned to his homeland in 1080 and has never left it for over 50 years since then. He monitors compliance with the rules in the city.
Juan Cortez
Fifth Generation LasombraJuan Cortez was the son of a Spanish nobleman and visited Nuremberg as part of the duties entrusted to him by his father. He was embraced in the city in 1120.
Today, Juan is responsible for observing the actions of the Sabbath in the city and intervening if necessary to keep the existence of the vampires hidden. When the protectorate actively intervenes in events, Juan is the vampire who attacks from the shadows to ensure peace.
Sangarinus Valerian
Fifth Generation CappadocianSangarinus Valerian is the oldest among the members of the protectorate. He was already embraced in Londinuum in the third decade after Christ's birth. He came to Nuremberg on his research trips to investigate rumours of a necropolis below the city - and never left again.
In the modern nights he usually keeps himself hidden, as his appearance betrays him quite clearly and would attract the attention of Giovanni. Only the oldest among the Cainites of the city have ever met him.
Calum Buideach
Fifth Generation True BrujahCalum is originally from the British Isles and came to the mainland with the Romans. Over the centuries he travelled almost the entire continent, and settled in Nuremberg around 1100. He left the city at regular intervals without anyone knowing exactly where he was going or why.
If the protectorate is unable to control rampant masquerade breakdowns, it is said to intervene in the past to ensure the safety of the city.
Sybille Vogt
Fifth Generation SalubriThe most gentle and youngest member of the protectorate is without doubt Sybille. She comes from the Nuremberg region and was to be executed as a witch during the first inquisition for her herbalism. A Salubri, who travelled through the city, took pity on her and embraced her.
When her education was completed in 1650, she took the place of her sire in the protectorate. Although she remains largely hidden, many ancestors are aware of her existence and seek her help when the burden of the past overshadows their spirit.

I love the prose at the beginning - terrifying! I really like the introductions to each of the protectorate. They all sound like such interesting characters. :)
