Session 55 - March 19, 2020 Report

General Summary

World Date, Fall, Third Moon, Fisen (21st Day)
  • The party wakes up and is level 8, with venison sausage, eggs and biscuits for breakfast. The party discusses what they will do that day, mainly mushroom money and un-petrify the person in the bag of holding.
  • As the party is finishing breakfast, Judith brings Roth a calling card, which reads “Sir Leonardo Orion, etiquette and dancing instructor” and asks if he is at home.
  • Roth agrees and the party goes into the parlor to meet a 50ish human with gray hair, goatee, and impeccably dressed. He recommends a 4 hour introduction to his teaching so that they can cover the basics and he can get an idea of where they are in terms of standing.
  • Baeshra has no interest in the lesson and has to be persuaded to stay, and after some confusion, the party goes to the ballroom/sitting room on the 3rd floor and learn official titles and how to address them, bows and curtsy, receiving line, acceptable dress and accessories. Baeshra rolls a Nat 20 on learning all this.
  • Orion then runs the party through 3 major dances, the Minuet, the La Volta, and the Benroth Reel, which everyone excelled at but Baeshra who was terrible.
  • Orion suggested a short refreshers a few days before court, gets paid 20 gold and leaves. Making a note about lizard men being as bad as 12 year olds. (28th at 3 pm).
  • Party has lunch at home.
  • The party goes to see Otto at the Adventures Guild and gets paid for 5 mushrooms of the over 4 in top, for 50 gold each, so 250 gold and 50 gold per person.
  • Scarlett notices that the post for finding the missing cat is not there, as the quest was completed and Princess was returned to its owners.
  • The party heads to the temple with Merry and Roth casting disguise self, and being other people to avoid and Merry the pet cart owner. Roth, Ari, Merry, and Scarlett go into the temple of the Raven Queen, and Baeshra stays outside, with a small fire lizard he created, to “worship and pray”.
  • The Priestess Tome greats Roth and they try to explain to her what they are trying to do, and she takes them down to the Preparation Chamber, and she goes to get the High Priestess Katrina.
  • Merry and Ari roll high medicine checks and everyone gets the body roughly assembled on the marble slab in the center of the room.
  • Katrina enters in full ceremonial garb with veil prepared to offer last rites to someone or someone who recently passed. She is surprised to see the party with Roth and pieces of a statue.
  • Roth explains they found this person (?) in the pyramid and they need to find a way to put him back together and possibly bring him back to life if possible.
  • Katrina mends the statue pieces back together and then gets 150 gold to cast the spell bringing him back, and 30 gold for healing after he is brought back to life.
  • The statue is mended and the form slowly regains it color, and Roth thinks the face looks vaguely familiar. There is discussion on if they need to tie the figure down, but they decided against it.
  • Sir Gregory Leif, Wizard of the Golden Tower awakens, confused, realizes he is with a priestess of the Raven Queen, and is trying to piece together what happened. Katrina heals him with Cure wounds to take care of any lingering issues with the un-petrification.
  • Merry and Roth tell him that he was petrified in 975, and the year is now 1304. He learns he is in Benroth, and the Archdruid Marisha was looking for him.
  • Sir Gregory also notices that Roth, Merry and Scarlett are his students and mentions the tower on the bustling Isle of Brell. He is a little dazed and Katrina mentions he should probably rest.
  • He sends a message to Archdruid Marisha, who comes via Transport via Plants immediately and offers to take care of him while he recovers for a few days. He then pays the party back for the healing and spell to awaken him, and goes with the ArchDruid Marisha.
  • Roth and Merry have a discussion about the glasses Merry found in the tower, the elephant Gertrude, and how to explain them, as well as how they were marked as “students”.
  • Scarlett then asks Katarina about making Holy Water, and shows her the tank of fish, which Roth cautions against her doing to anyone else (again). The ritual for Holy Water is 1/2 gallon, 1 hour, 1 1st level spell slot, and 25 gold of silver dust. Scarlett is asked to return the next day after trying it herself a few times.
  • Outside Baeshra then causes problems with the pet cart owners, Pet Cart of Sorrena Sparre and she goes to call the City Guard. Luckily Ari is nearby and can turn into a city guard via Disguise Self. Merry sees the trouble, asks Thamatergy to open all the cages, and then leaves with Roth and Scarlett to go see Korfel at the Voodoo Doll.
  • After some persuading, Ari and Baeshra are moved along out of the main market area.
  • Scarlett shows off a sarcophagus to Korfel, who says he is not a seller of non-magical items, and she might check with someone else. She found it in the pyramid.
  • Roth then arranges to stop by the next day and chat with Korfel and assist him in the work he is doing or help with the boots he has on order that Korfel is crafting for him.
  • Merry heads to the docks to hear about rumors.
  • Ari and Baeshra go the jewelry store, where they meet up with Scarlett, and the two ladies collect the jewelry they had on order.
  • Roth goes to the tailor and gets a pair of undershorts in chain metal, The Lover’s Amor, which protects the vitals of the gentleman who has a married lady friend. Roth learns they sell quite a few of them. Roth also adds some steel boning and barding on his waistcoats.
  • As he is done, Ari enters and gets something similar built into the bodice of her dress. Scarlett and Baeshra head home and Roth and Ari follow.
  • Merry hears one rumor about the rain and how it is constant, one rumor of the Head of the Thieves Guild would be at court, but no one knows who, and finally the rumor of new very expensive piece of jewelry has been commissioned.
  • The tieflings wandered off to play music and dance while Roth and Baeshra went to the house to get some things done. Baeshra cast hallucinatory terrain in the basement to look like a swamp, and no one else realizes it. Roth is upstairs studying, and Judith presents him with a card, asking if he is at home. It says “Lady Lavore, Gentlewoman Extraordinaire”. Roth agrees to meet her, also asking Judith to find some workmen to enlarge and connect the rooms of his place.
  • Roth has tea with “Lucy” a blue tieflings, who asks about the other teiflings in the house, Roth with a 28 insight, see she is looking for Merry and lets her know she is not at home, and to try back later, and then has wine and cake.
  • Scarlett goes dancing and crashes a birthday party, Merry plays at the Wandering Waves, and Ari goes to the Thieves Guild Office - The Crooked Quill to offer services and get ground rules.
  • After dinner of just Roth and Baeshra, Roth has a distraught Judith take him to the basement and show him the “swamp”. She is able to gather a few belonging and sleeps upstairs for one night.
  • Roth talks to Merry when she returns, mentioning she had a visitor of a blue teifling. Roth asks “Should I have hit on her?” Merry seems not overly interested in the visitor, and they both go to sleep.
World Date, Fall, Third Moon, Fisal (22nd Day)
  • Baeshra is confronted by Judith about the swamp basement and Merry and Ari jump all over that, chiding him to honor the agreement.
  • Roth leaves and spend the day working the Korfel on the boots and general aid around the store in Arcane.
  • Scarlett went to see The Raven Queen temple and Katrina about the holy water, and is pleased with the result and the slight modification needed for Scarlet’s deity.
  • Merry leaves a note with Judith if the Blue Tiefling lady returns. Judith gives her the note that afternoon. The note is for a dock dive bar meeting late at night.
  • Merry scouts the area around the Duke’s Castle, looking for shops, side entrances, and to get a lay of the land. She was invisible for most of it, and did not into the main gate. She then returns to the home.
  • Baeshra pays Judith the 20 gold, she takes the room on the 2nd floor and he moves into the basement, and they both make sure she can still access the wine and cold storage. The basement looks like a swamp again.
  • Scarlett, Ari, and Merry go out and perform, eventually with Merry going to meet her grandmother.
  • Merry meets her Grandmother, who is wearing a hat of disguise and looks like a gruff old sailor.
  • Merry and her grandmother catch up, and Grandmother lets Merry know there are two very large rubies, call The Eyes of Mask, which she believes are in Benroth, or will be in Benroth for court. Her grandmother lets her know that if these jewels are offered to Mask, it will get Merry off of the hit list, and possibly off the list all together. Merry is not sure she wants to try to steal such prominent and expensive jewels. Merry's Grandmother says she will see her at court as a elvish lady with a dwarf gentleman and Merry says she will keep her distance due to possible issues with Baeshra.
  • Merry’s Grandmother was amused by Roth and talks about the nice wine and cake you had. Merry says Roth is trouble, 90% trouble and very charming, in the short and long term, but Merry is not interested.
  • Merry then sneaks home and goes to sleep.
