The red man of Pearlhal Myth in Mirateia | World Anvil

The red man of Pearlhal

According to the legend, The red man of Pearlhal can date its origins back at least 1800 years.   Many claims to have seen the red man but no trustworthy evidence has ever been found, many credits the red glow people claim to see to be a result of torches from patrols walking the streets at night.   The last sighting of the red man was 205 years ago after a particularly brutal murder brought the legend about the red man to people's minds again.

Summary

The story about how the red man came to be, goes that one day a man returned to his home late at night, having just returned from his 3rd job, returned to find the door to his home was slightly ajar, a thing it should not be at this time of day and in this neighbourhood.   Pulling his small pocket knife he slowly entered the house to find his wife and child laying on the floor, the wife holding the child, both dead.   The man falls to the ground crying and crawls towards his family, in the process getting covered in blood. The man's crying gained some interest and someone called for the city guard to get the man to stop, not knowing what had happened. When the guards arrived they found the man covered in red, with the pocket knife nearby and falsely assumed that the man in blind rage had killed his family and took him to the prison where he after a week of interrogation that included torture, the man falsely confessed to the murders and was executed.   Shortly after, stories began to appear about a man walking the streets surrounded by a red glow.
