The Aurora

The Aurora is the ceremonial pen used by the newly crowned ruler of the Empire of Dercia.
When the new ruler is crowned they will be given this pen and will sign their first order to the armed forces of the empire, it depends on the ruler what branch that will be given the order, throughout history it has generally been the imperial legions.
Sometimes under specific circumstances it has been used as a symbol of a fresh start for a specific legion such as 9th Legion that after the Battle of the lone Castle became the personal legion of the ruling family.

While the magic that is imbued into the pen is largely unknown, so far scholars have identified an advanced version of the "Command" spell that when the pen is used to sign an order makes the involved follow the order which is largely why it is mainly only used to sign one piece of paper once every time a new ruler is crowned.
During the decade of the 5 emperors the Aurora was used to take over the throne by the usurper to clear out the opposition within the walls of the capital.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Generally it works as any other pen, but either during its construction or at a later point in history it was imbued with magic that no one really understands, but when the first order is signed the words light up and it sort of work like the well known "Command" spell but only on a seemingly unlimited number of people but only within a certain area.

Significance

For the Empire of Dercia the Aurora has a huge significance, it is an important part of the crowning ceremony.
