The Age of Brigands & Broken Barons

At its height, the baronial period appeared much as illustrated. The families once happy to pledge fealty to an overlord, were content to manage their own affairs, most disregarding old loyalties. Battles, between neighbouring baronies were fought. Coastal raiders were emboldened to attack from Chaelia, the Dare Talons, the Hammer Islands and from across the Seas. Notably, this was the first time the se'Ractors of Baym were seen on Coaseth's coastline.     As well skirmishes against brigand-chieftains were contested continuously across Coaseth. These brigand bands contained not only the criminal strata but also the disaffected members of House society. Green became these unallied brigand bands. The colour symbolised the grasslands of the Houseland territory. It meant that these 'outlawed' bands looked upon the Houselands as their rightful homeland, despite their no longer being welcomed there.     As well, this was the time of the rise of new power bases, both in inhabitations and in organisations. The city-states; Cloister, Marchrise and Quarried, were founded in this period of weaker local controls. Seizing on the lack of overall authority, these city centres began to exert their own control. It would not take long for thses cities to be valued more than the House barons that lived near them.     Along the west coast, primarily in Iorinth, the Warlogues began their rise. Their rise saw a balancing as across the continent, the Heralds saw their colleges destroyed until their only holding was in the city of Mymoor. Notably, the continental centre of Coaseth was held by House Ennorren. From this position the house held its borders strongly for many decades. It remained only for a new unifier to emerge. Duke Salq was this man. Deep in their territory, troops were trained and then campaigns were launched at first the southern baronies and once captured, to the north. There, the Warlogues wisely sensed this was opportune and sided with the Ennorren duke. These two new faces ; The Warlogues and Duke Salq brought Coaseth under his control and ushered in the next Age.
