Noble Order of Academics and Historians
The Noble Order of Academics and Historians was founded approximately one and a half centuries ago in Mélamar. It is dedicated to the preservation of history and artifacts. Unsurprisingly, it has a bias toward elven history, but its efforts embrace all history with curiosity and considerable resources. Due to its long name, the organisation is often referred to as the Order, the Noble Order, or N.O.A.H. In addition to academics and historians, the Order also contracts magicians to identify and investigate magic and its place in the history of the world.
The Fyrebough branch of the Order is very disconnected from the larger body of the Order, and has had to become relatively self-reliant. The branch has existed nominally since Fyrebough's reclamation, but it is only through the more recent efforts of Lady Euricia Ardannia that it has begun to thrive. The Order has invested considerable time and resources into the renovation of the old museum which was essentially a glorified storage house. Now the museum and library's two stories are orderly and respectable. The library has attached to it several laboratories for the use of alchemy and the creation of magical items, though the sorts of items the residents of Fyrebough can create are comparatively humble.
In order to join the Order, an applicant must be able to use magic and hold a permit to use it within Fyrebough. Alternatively, applicants must show a certain breadth of knowledge. The successful applicant must then pay a one-time membership fee of 80gp. The benefits of membership more than recoup this price, and instill in each member a certain level of confidence.
