Horrors

Origin and Characteristics

Horrors are believed to originate from the Astral Plane, envisioned by some scholars to be the source of all elements, magic, life and death itself. As Mindosza is experiencing the Convergence every few millenia, the barrier between the astral plane and the material one weakens, allowing the horrors to cross that boundary. There is very little physically that can serve as an aid in classifying them, though there are certain "species" that display similar characteristics and powers. Horrors manifest in many ways - from ravenous monstrosities that devour all they encounter, to intelligent and malign entities that feed off the negative emotions they inspire in their victims. One trait common to all Horrors is their instinct or desire to cause harm. It is generally believed that Horrors subsist on the negative emotions produced in the victims they harm.   The corruption of the Horrors was so profound that even some Deities of Mindosza were driven insane during the last convergence.

On "Named" and "Twisted" Horrors

Horrors have been observed to fall into two categories. The eldest and most vile, that originally stepped from the astral plane to devour life and emotions, corrupting the land and people are unique from one another, no two horrors of this kind will ever look or act exactly the same. These Horrors are called "Named Horrors", because either of their own making, or by being called such, they are known by a name that instills dread to anyone that knows them.   During their time on the material plane, these Named Horrors leave behind a scar of corruption and pain, leading to the second kind of Horrors: The Twisted. These terrifying beings were once part of flora or fauna and were deformed by the horrors that came by them, turning them into nightmare versions of what they once were. A Twisted Cave Bear might grow fearful spiny extension of their bones, turning the otherwise spirited animal into a mindless killer.   These horrors derive sustenance from consuming life on a physical scale, while some Named Horrors have more specialized diets, feeding off specific types of emotions or other metaphysical concepts. In fact, these horrors will often try everything to keep their victims from dying, as these emotions would vanish with their death. Instead they wish to keep them in a state of fear or pain to continuously feed off of it.
