Astronomy

Mindosza is a moon orbiting a much larger Gas Giant, Szanaru, which in turn orbits its star once every 500 years in an elliptical shape. Szanaru is one of seven Gas Giants (also called Titans, worshipped as Gods) orbiting the sun. Once every 2000 years, at their periapsis, these planets share an orbital path around the sun, making for the Convergence. Mindosza orbits Szanaru once every 3 months in an unstable orbit, leading to roughly:
  • 3 months at neutral tilt towards Szanaru, leading to normal temperatures (Spring)
  • 3 months at positive tilt towards Szanaru, leading to hot temperatures (Summer)
  • 3 months at neutral tilt towards Szanaru, leading to normal temperatures (Fall)
  • 3 months at negative tilt towards Szanaru, leading to cold temperatures (Winter)
Therefore a year on Mindosza takes 12 Months, but because of it's somewhat slow rotation, days in Mindosza have 30 hours. This leads to
  • 288 days in a year
  • 24 days a month and
  • 6 days a week
In total, this equals the same hours/year as earth takes around the sun and therefore a year on Mindosza is the same as on earth, if divided up somewhat differently.   At 72 days per rotation around Szanaru, it takes about 9 days every 3 months to move from behind Szanaru again in a position that the sun can be seen again. While Mindosza is not reliant on the sun, (see Convergence for more details) these days are somewhat dimmer than the rest and are marked by a noticable violet hue, since all light that arrives at mindosza now comes from Szanaru, with the sun entirely eclipsed.   This time is also known as the The Eldritch Nights .   Model of Mindosza Orbiting Szanaru, orbiting the Sun.
