Doors of Somewhere

Doors that always lead to somewhere.

"They lead to somewhere alright..
Theiket Pronathea.

Doors of Somewhere are quite enigmatic Artifacts of Power of unknown origin that appear out of nowhere and leads to somewhere. Where, no one knows until one opens it.

Origin

Their origin is so far unknown and is highly debated; that it was most likely erased by the Amnesia Pulse is not questioned however. One of the most accepted guesses, however, is that the Architect had some involvement in their construction.

Unseen Manifestation & Vanishing

All attempts to hinder the Doors to vanish have been met with failure, as it may be there one second, and then gone without a trace the next. No one has ever managed to witness a Door in the vanishing act, nor seeing it manifest, as it appears to be affected by the Blind Spot Effect, much to the dismay of researchers.

Appearance

General Apperance

"Yeah... That is a Door of Somewhere alright.
Theiket Pronathea.
Most Doors have a similar appearance to each other, seemingly being made from dark mahogany and smooth black marble, with a doorframe made from smooth black marble. It is quite difficult to see where one material begins and the other end and one could say that the two melt into each other seamlessly, until one opens the door that is.
Both door and doorframe are — most of the time — also covered in minuscule carvings in the form of geometrical shapes and floral patterns, though if there is a meaning to them it has not been discovered yet.

Decietful Apperance

"It looked just like an ordinary door. Nothing strange about it. And then I opened it. I was lucky that Evelyn was there to grab hold of me. I hate those things...
Sometimes, however, the Doors of Somewhere are perfect copies of ordinary doors in the building complex or area. They look like your average door that one might notice at all as one walks by, though they are always unlocked.
These, one has a greater risk of opening and entering without much thought, causing one to find themselves somewhere where they did not expect.

Walking through the Door

If you opens the door and see people in an Inn, those on the other side will not take notice of you. Not until you step through the door and close it behind you.
While everyone may get a bit befuddled over your sudden appearance, they are unable to get too confused over it and will simply handwave the strangeness away, possibly commenting on how silent on is.
As one turns around to look at the Door of Somewhere, one will — usually — find it gone. As if it had never been there to begin with. Rarer, however, one will indeed find a door there, but it will be completely ordinary.

Ghost of Somewhere

"Idiot! Close the Door after you walk through!
— Old man.
If you walk through a Door of Somewhere, you must close the door afterward. Otherwise, you will remain unseen and incapable of interacting with people and objects. It will all simply go through you as if you were air.
You will find yourself incapable of dying, of either thirst, hunger, or time. For all intents and purposes, you will be an unseen ghost. It is only back through a Door of Somewhere that will retain your mortality and physicality. But it may not be the one you walked through, as it will vanish minutes afterward, even if open. And it may take an ungodly amount of time until another appears, and by then, you may have gone well beyond mad from it all.

Manifestations

While the Doors of Somewhere certainly are more common within Alézun'Teran — especially near the Wellsprings — they can very well appear anywhere in Vael'Eteria.
When it comes to the Nexus Worlds, then they are more likely to appear in Miand'Més than anywhere else though.

Destinations

You can never be sure of where a Door of Somewhere may lead. There exist an infinite amount of possibilities. Some are nice and welcome locations, while others will evaporate both flesh and soul before you have even managed to take a single breath.
Opening a door you might find yourself looking upon the Void or a broad hallway with large bookcases and imposing knight statues on either side. Maybe look upon the interior of the Yellow Skiff Inn or the outerior of the Sandhmon Tower.
Some even appear to lead to the past or the future eras of locations, though these are more rumors than facts. Rumors that are of special interest to groups like the Phasma Ecto Cult.
