Magical Girl Ohara Umeko Character in Miand'Mésvéstell | World Anvil

Magical Girl Ohara Umeko

"You know, I have long since accepted that the universe despises me. I can deal with a lot of shit, but this is taking the cake and eating it whole. Next time, I will not do anything until a sufficient force of Athek Feather Mercenaries arrive. I cannot keep doing this stuff on my own!
— Ohara Umeko, after she barely survived an ambush by a Gamháther Knight.

General

Ohara Umeko is a Well-Arrived Individual from the Ilkharion Wellspring. She climbed out of it about two years prior to current events, heavily wounded and barely conscious.
She was quickly taken to the Cericor Hospital, where her wounds could heal and the fever that had taken a hold of her was subdued. She would mutter in her sleep during the worst of it, mention something called Overworked and Spite.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

A strange new world

When she awoke and could be communicated with, she was clearly shocked by all the new and strange. About magic supposedly being weird and commonplace, of the strange fashion and the technology that looked both old-fashioned and highly advanced.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

A magical girl?

According to herself, she was from a World simply known as Earth, and she herself was something known, in the current times at least, as a "magical girl." Those like her fought against the Overworked and various monsters, though she had a difficult time remembering exactly what those things where.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

Without a familiar?

When asked about someone named Spite, she was told she was the only one who had arrived from the Ilkharion Well. The only one ever since the Geist Cataclysm some 130 years ago.
This horrified, but it also confused Ohara. A magical girl without her familiar was no magical girl. So how did she still feel that the Magical Seal was intact? On the other hand, it would explain why she also felt so strange; as if someone had taken a piece of her and stretched it outward beyond belief.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

Abilities

"A Mute Button."

She quickly discovered that, while the Magical Seal was intact, the absence of Spite caused her Magical Powers to become wrong. Different. Twisted.
Before she arrived in Cericor, she was capable of muting sound; something she called "Pressing the Mute Button," which allows her negated soundwaves within a specific area of her choosing. Basically, she produced an anti-sound field that would cause sound-waves to dissipate. The downside is that, if she uses it on herself, no one will be able to hear her words.   She could cast it around herself to move stealthily about, or to make the surrounding sounds bounce off her, allowing her to have some peace and quiet. Most of the time. While not having much offensive potentiality, she managed to learn a technique which would cause powerful soundwaves, either from explosions or glass-shattering screams, to press on her Mute Field long enough for a vibration effect to occur, which she could utilize to make stone and even steel to either break apart in an explosion or become twisted.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

Twisted and wrong
After arriving to Cericor, a few things had changed regarding her Mute Button. While the core of her power remained the same, it had become more difficult to control. Her so-called Boombox ability had a much higher chance of occurring and affecting random objects she touched. So far, she has managed to not touch that which is made out of flesh and breathes while it is on, so to say.   Beyond that, she would begin to hear sounds of events either long after they occurred or just before they happened. An ability that has saved her life countless times, even if it makes her skin crawl.   Another strange effect of her arrival is that whenever she puts extra focus on her power and uses it for a prolonged time, a strange white mist will appear from her limbs and all around her.
After describing it to those with the necessary knowledge, has said that it is perhaps a strange substance known as Sereor, which is what all Wellsprings are made from.
Whatever effect it has on her, she has not yet discovered.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

Appearance

Ohara Umeko has fair white skin and long, light blonde hair usually fixed in a ponytail. Her eyebrows are of a dark brown shade though.
Across her face and chest, the scars from two claw marks are visible, though how she got the scar, she has a real hard time remembering.
Her eyes are of a dull grey shade, which caused many to think she was blind in the beginning but she does have her sight still intact. Though according to herself, she had stark blue eyes before arriving through the Wellspring.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

Apparel

Ohara Umeko usually wears a simple white blouse (usually covered in dried water paint) underneath a simple dark green west with bronze buttons. Beyond that, she wears dark pants and simple shoes, along with a broad leather belt around her waist. Over all this, she usually wears a dark-green wool mantle.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

"Magical" Outift

Ohara's "Magical" Outfit are simple elbow-glows made from leather, along with turning her mantel inside out - making it appear coal-black - and taking out the hood that is hidden when she wears it normally. The hood itself has a pattern stitched unto it, resembling fox ears.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

Weapons

Loud Revolver

Given to her by Endrise Fabulae, this revolver is a six-shooter that only fires blank shots. When fired, people nearby will hear her, and her target will hopefully be stunned enough to give Ohara time to act.
She only uses it when it is really necessary and when it is possible to help her out of a situation, as well as utilizing it as a mere alert tool, to let people know, approximately, where she is. More often than not, however, she finds herself out of blank shots and hopes its intimating appearance is enough when the situation calls for it.
She is not sure exactly why Endrise gave it to her and why she has a discount at his "shop," but according to him, he says it is because there is something about her that is eerily familiar.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

Cool Dagger

Bought at her own initiative, is a dagger made from the best of Metallurgs. Enchanted to always stay cool and give those she strikes cold damage. She uses it more often than her revolver, though it has the misfortune of giving of tiny bangs of magic energy whenever it has been drawn from its holster.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

Hobbies

Painting

If there is one thing that allows her to relax and scatter the dark, worrisome thoughts in her head, it is painting. Especially with watercolors. She focuses mostly on nature environments.
No people or animals though. Every time she attempts it, she finds herself making portraits of the people and animals she knew in her former life.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

Watching the night streets

Sometimes, she will go out and patrol the city streets during nighttime. Be on the lookout for bandits and evildoers. Listen to the night sounds of a Varldstan Realm, or watch the alien starry sky. She is usually dressed in her "Magical" Outfit during these moments.
— Inhabitants of Varldstan Cericor.

Mental Details

Despite having made a new life for herself in Cericor, she cannot escape the feeling of being torn between this world and Earth. She does not know if the pain is mental or physical, but it damn sure feels like it is physical; there are moments when the pain becomes so immense she cannot do anything but sit or lay still and cry. No words can be uttered and she will - if so possible - retreat to a place where she can be alone.   She misses her old life. Her old friends and family. Most likely thought she was dead in a ditch somewhere. Except Spite, of course, wherever he was. Was he in as bad shape as she, that old, pun-making fox? Who always knew what to say when she was down. But now she was alone in a strange world, where she did her best to fit in. Those around her could never understand her. Not truly. But they did their best, and that was a ray of bright sunshine in an otherwise crappy situation.

Gamháther Knight

A Union Representative

Ohara Umeko quickly grew very interested in the Ilkharion Wellspring, something she shared with many others, except for perhaps the Ilkharions themselves who viewed the Well with reasonable suspicion and even reverence.   She wanted to know all there were about the Wellsprings and if there was a possibility of returning. For her to be reunited with Spite. But as far as anyone knows, it is not achievable. But Ohara would not accept that and quickly became one of the most hardworking Wellspring scholars.   This captured the attention of the UwU Representative Board, and when they heard she was even from the Ilkharion Wellspring of all Wellsprings, she was quickly given the proposal to become one of them, and she accepted it, thinking it could also distract her slightly from the current position she was in.

Spite, the Familiar

"You know what he would say? "You know Ohara, in spite of how that went down, at least you learned a valuable lesson." I swear, there were moments where it felt like I could strangle him.
— Ohara, talking about Spite and his usage of puns.
Spite is the name on the fox familiar that Ohara still feels a connection too and she treasures that connection oh so much, even if it is painful both mentally and physically.   When tentatively asked about him, Ohara will say that he had the appearance of a seemingly ordinary old fox with thick red fur, large ears, and a fluffy tail. He had had many Magical Girls before her and always had an "educational" story to tell regarding one of them whenever she messed up or felt down.   He had a tendency to make too many puns and not always at the best of moments. A majority of them were so bad they were good, but he always managed to utilize the best puns that would make an oak groan in despair.
