Twice Born Child

The Lands of Metima Maru are home to numerous religions, tall-tales and mysteries. However, there is one tale that seems to permeate every inch of the landscape - a kernel growing in village alehouses and capital churches. The myth of the Twice Born Child.   The Elk Tamers and Vossetti believe that this child will be the one to unite all the tribes of the north under one true banner. The Twice Born will wear the horns of Ennkanu upon their head and wield the Axe of the Great Ursus as they march forward with their people to destroy the evils that infect their homeland. They will run out the invaders, both orc and man; leaving only the peaceful song of the people.   The Fifteen Kingdoms believe that the Twice Born Child is their great hero-king, Sevren-Odd, returned to his throne. Their great king will summon his fifteen knights to his side, and take up his great battle sword in order to wage war against the orc contagion, destroying it once and for all.   The Empire of Fangs teaches that the Emperor's line shall continue unbroken until the Twice Born Child prostrates himself before the Fanged Throne. The Emperor shall name him his right hand and they will begin a New Age of Dragons that will bring peace and harmony to the land. Under their guidance, the populous will know no hunger, experience no pain. The world will be as the Great Dragon fortold.   Among the people of Spire, they whisper the legend of the Twice Born Child in hushed tones. He is the one that will bend magic to his whim. With but a word he will turn winds, break castles and change landscapes. A wave of his hand is all that is required to bring life back to the Ravaged Wastes. He will reawaken the Wastes, bring grass back to the barren land, and raise the cities that fell during the Great Cataclysm.   Those that dwell in the Southern Cities tell grand tales where a Twice Born Child will create a new city, golden and shining on the horizon. From his great palace he will teach the masses wisdom and educate them on how to rule. He will create true democracy, ushering in an age of enlightenment.   The Elves of the Eastern Wood are the only civilization that do not welcome the coming of this child. Instead, the Elves preach fear and horror at his arrival. They do no see a shining beacon, but another tyrant akin to their own fallen kings of old. They say the Twice Born Child is the coming of destruction, the herald of the end times. That his second birth is the end of all - the Great Cataclysm will be but a footnote to the terror he will wreak.   But it is, after all, just a myth. A story that people tell each other to hope for better times. After all, how is one born twice?   How indeed.
