Grand Temple of the Divine

"It is without a doubt that one of the greatest losses to our world with the fall of the Mythic Empire was The Grand Temple of the Divine. Never before or again will such a place of beauty and holliness grace us, and thus many a foolish pilgrim sets out to the inhosbitable Desolated West hoping to rediscover its majesty."
Wonders of Antiquity, Wilhem Haider

Purpose / Function

The Grand Temple of the Divine was the largest temple and central place of worship in the Mythic Empire. Many religious celebrations were held in the temple all year round, the most important of these was the crowning of the Mythic Empires rulers, but now it stands as an empty ruin lost to the sands of The Desolated West.

Alterations

Like much of the structures of the Mythic Empire in The Desolated West little of the original structure has remained. Over the years it has been eroded by the elements and much of the structure is blocked by the ever-shifting sands that keep it hidden.

Architecture

The Grand Temple of the Divine follows the typical classical architectural style of many of the Mythic Empire buildings. It was constructed around and inside a mountain with a large open-air courtyard that was used for public events. The internal area of the temple located inside the mountain is a large circular structure with a domed ceiling. Statues of each of the old gods are located in alcoves from this central room.

History

The Grand Temple was the first temple constructed in the Mythic Empire and acted as a template for the construction of many other temples. Every ruler of the Mythic Empire, with the exception of Lorentz II, was coronated here. During the Great Incursions, the temple was assaulted by Orcus and his undead hordes and was successfully defended by Osistam with the aid of Dijara, Goddess of Earth and Soito, God of Magic. The temple was ultimately destroyed by the event that brought around the end of the Great Incursions.
