Captain Romero's Journal Entry

17th of Leaffall 1436

In all my years working for the Duke, I have never witnessed such horrors as I did today. At around noon while I was overseeing preparations for The Duke's arrival an explosion rocked the streets. I hastened with as many men as I could muster towards the smoke that was filling the sky. As we rounded the corner I'm ashamed to admit I froze in fear. Before me was a beast like none I have ever seen nor heard off, a massive mound of flesh, and mouths that let out such hideous screams that could not belong to anything of this world. This abomination killed three residents before it was brought down and if it had not been for the heroic efforts of Gabrielle, Heskan and Durin once again I fear we would have lost far more.   Shortly after the chaos, The Duke arrived and rightfully sanctioned the trio to act in his name in defense of the citizens of The Hovel. They shall have the full cooperation of my men in their future endeavors. It was then that Captain Hadari of the Spaders appeared with some foreign wizard in tow. I would not be surprised if those elves had something to do with this whole mess for they quickly cornered off the area and took the body of the beast with them.   I did not eat tonight. Juliana has tried her best to comfort me but it is for naught. I doubt I will sleep tonight either but will try to find comfort in a bottle and forget the sight of that horrific creature. I will meet with Father Abrams tomorrow to suggest an emergency meeting of the council and make arrangements for the burials of the deceased.   Gunter Wood, Simon Bennett, Mary Godfrey. May the Saints preserve them.
