Zii Thu'um (Zee Th-oom)
Zii Thu'um, or known by others as Spirit Voice, is a language spoken by the dragons of old. While nearly dragons speak Thu'um, or draconic, Spirit Voice is a nearly dead language. The language is said to have words that can be used in a spell like manner to enchant the speaker or make violent attacks.
To an outsider who is fluent in Thu'um, they will recognize a few words words spoken when hearing it, but most of the language sounds familiar, yet completely different from Zii Thu'um.
Geographical Distribution
Spirit Voice was once spoken by nearly all dragons during the first and second age, but after the attacks and butchering of dragons by the Durangal Empire the language was nearly lost to time. As time went on the language broke down and changed quite a bit, and the very words lost their power. Centuries passed and it evolved into modern Draconic.
Now the language is only spoken by members of the Draconic Council and the Tivvak. Once someone is elected to the council they are instructed to learn the language quickly in order to be able to communicate during their meetings, which are held entirely in spirit voice. This can sometimes put new members at a disadvantage but ensures that the needs of the council will have their top priority. The Tivvak, who is often a former member of the council, learns the language nearly instantly if they did not know it before when they undergo the Dragonsoul ritual, as memories of all previous Tivvak enter their mind.
One of the Dragon Lords who was rescued from a crystalline prison speaks the language fluently as well, though she is unable to use the shouts. As she learns draconic she is instructed to never speak the original dragon tongue outside of meeting with the council.
Structural Markers
Words often are broken up into two or three parts that speaking only some of will give a different meaning or context behind the word. A word can go from speak to song to shout with just additives to the word itself.
Power words, or shouts, are words/phrases that generate actual magic like abilities. These words are very powerful and dangerous to those who do not know how to wield them. The speaker can choose to activate the ability the word(s) have behind them, but can speak it normally as well.
