White Rose Cartography Company

The White Rose Cartography Company was a small group of mapmakers who founded a company on their own. They had planned on traveling all up and down and making a proper map of the Kingdom of Brennis, which had only been small localized maps at that point.   After completing that nearly three years later, they had completed the entirety of the map of Brennis and made quite a lot of money from sales, selling their maps on goatskin since paper from Rodina had long since ran out. Shortly after they had completed the national map, they decided to focus their attention on the new project of King Rain Brennis I, the construction of the City of Unity.   The WRCC had been in contact with King Rain during their work on the Kingdom wide map, and had learned of his plans to build a city on the former border of the Kingdom of Brennis and the Statehood to help bridge the gap between the two formerly separated peoples, and become a trade hub for the kingdom. They had offered to help find the best location for his city to be founded, as well as work on building a constantly updated city map for him, in exchange for a small section of land within the city itself and a small bit of initial funding. The King gladly agreed and the company started it's work immediately.   After a few weeks of traveling around and mapping out the countryside, they found a location that was ample in resources and even had rivers to connect them to the ocean. They showed their research to King Rain and he was thrilled and made his first steps into plotting the city's development. Some of the WRCC even aided in his initial planning. For their job, they were granted 2000 Iron, and 2000 square feet of land within the city. The WRCC packed their things and made their way to Unity that next morning. After setting up camp they began to plot their newly acquired land. They only ended up using a small section of their acquired land to begin construction on a building for their business, the rest they had plans to eventually turn into shops or stores once more construction began. As work on their building started, the WRCC was already onto their next project.   There were two massive plots of land that had yet to be mapped out. The Ambit, which was a series of mountains to the east that grew quickly in elevation and acted as a natural wall for the Kingdom, the Big Empty, the land past it that seemed to go on forever according to the few that dared head past the Ambit. There was some debate among the group of where they should turn their attention to next. Some of them debated on focusing on the Ambit due to it's proximation next to the kingdom, as well as the fact that the area could contain valuable metals that they could sell the information for, while others argued that the ambit would take an extremely long amount of time to map out due to the sheer changes in elevation and hills within it as well as the difficulty and danger the weather conditions would provide due to the mountains being coated in snow and storms most of the year.   On the other hand, there was the Big Empty, whose name itself was almost an insult to the company itself. There were stories of people who ventured past the Ambit and returned to tell the tale, and even a small settlement outside of the kingdom, but the area was vast and completely unknown. There were plenty of dangers out there as well, and even the possibility of running into fierce monsters or cultures. There was the sheer reward of mapping a new part of this new world, and naming things based on each of the explorers. When mapping Brennis, people had landed all over the country naming places after themselves or locational factors or even after places from back in Rodina. By the time all the landing parties were reunited practically half of the kingdom was named and claimed.    After weeks of deliberation, the group finally agreed to tackle the big empty and planned on gathering materials and information before making the trek in two years time. Map sales continued to keep the company afloat, but profits died down eventually. Members had scoured the country looking for people who had already been past the Ambit before and what they had seen. A lot of information seemed to conflict one another and there were times where accounted turned out to be completely false due to the storyteller never actually having been past the Ambit before.    As early construction of the city continued around them, the WRCC was nearly ready for it's journey. Most of the team was busy updating local maps, a process they did for free to continue to keep customers loyal, for small and shifting settlements across Brennis. Two men, Isaac and Edward, were selected to take the journey. Both of them had been selected due to their younger age and talent for sketching while on the go. Each were given supplies, mapping tools, and a small stipend of 300 Iron to find people to take them over. They would each have a section of the Big Empty to chart, and return with in one years time. Isaac was to head to the south and Edward to the north after passing the Ambit. Both men left the WRCC planning to return with spools of information and stories.    Edward managed to find a pair of hunters near Unity who were willing to aid in his mission. They were cheap, and knew the nature of Orisia rather well and would keep him safe during their time together. They packed light and could live off the land and advised Edward to do the same. They left past the ambit just a week after both men had set off on their journey. They were last seen leaving Solis about two weeks after the trip had started. All three went missing after that never to be seen again.   Isaac found a small group of traveling mercenaries called the Sanguine Seven near Hopeshelm. They were a bit more expensive and traveled up and down the country and hadn't made much progress outside of the Kingdom, going only as far as Solis. They agreed to meet up in Hornfell around three weeks from their original meeting and if Isaac still needed them, he could hire them there if they were free. This put Isaac at a bit of a time disadvantage against Edward, but agreed to wait for them there.
