The Hanged Man's Journal

The Hanged Man's Journal was written by Edgar during his time as a hired blade for Duchess Rosewall.

Purpose

The Assassin's Journal was intended as a personal log, but also a way of implicating his frequent hirers should he ever be captured. To him, if he was going down, he was revealing all the sins of everyone who had hired him.

Historical Details

History

Though it never directly used her name, the journal was intended to implicate Duchess Rosewall should Edgar ever be killed or captured. The longer he worked for her, the more he hated her and knew if he was killed or captured on a job, it would be due to her greed and power-hungry cruelty, so he wanted to be sure she too would be dragged down with him.

Legacy

When Edgar was captured during the assassination of Elisa Brennis in Hopeshelm, the journal provided enough evidence for Asher and Jasper to prove Duchess Rosewall guilty of many different crimes against the people of Orisia. Edgar was hanged a few days after his capture but is said to have died with a smile knowing she would spend the rest of her life in a cage in Hopeshelm.   If it hadn't been for this journal, the blame would have most likely been shifted towards of the leaders of the Statehood since tension between them and Lionel Brennis was a bit tense already.   The discovery of the actions taken by Duchess Rosewall also helped demonstrate to Lionel and the Statehood leaders the danger of old world grudges coming over in the new world. It inspired both parties to rethink and restructure themselves to adapt to the new world, learning from the mistakes of the past.   Ashley Dran would have almost also certainly have died if Duchess Rosewall hadn't been discovered that night.
