The Glass Sea
The Glass Sea is a section of the world that was exposed to direct sunlight during the entirety of the Long Dark. During it's constant sun exposure the area was burned by intense heat that turned everything into a desert, and eventually glass. Massive waves of superheated glass would rise from the ground, expanding from the heat, and then eventually break under it's own weight sending glass fragments off in every direction. This went on during the entirety of the Long Dark killing all life and completely reshaping geological features. It's assumed the temperature of the area was superheated to a constant range of 1900F.
After the Long Dark ended the region was still covered in waves of glass that had yet to shatter, with fields of shattered glass all underneath it. Due to the lack of soil or even sand, the entire region is extremely dry. Water is nonexistent there, even in the air. Under the layers of glass waves and shards, there are pools of liquid mercury scattered about. It's not entirely sure where these pools came from, but the deadly liquid is extremely hot and near boiling point. Some pockets even have small vents to pour out mercury vapors daily. Temperatures reach up to 500 F every day while reducing slowly to about -20F during nightfall. The entire region is uninhabited by life and vastly unexplored.
It's not known what the region was like before the long dark, but it's assumed that nothing survived the intense heats the area had been subjugated to. Any plants, animals, civilizations, or ruins were vaporized in sheer hours.
Localized Phenomena
Strong windstorms can form on the Glass Sea that send off shards from the surface speeding around in every direction before they settle back down. Not only are the massive shards being tossed around a danger, but the micro fragments of glass that are tossed up by wind can be inhaled.
