Noth-Azin (Noth-Az-In)

Noth-Azin, or Slave Watch, was a Durangal city in the deserts of modern day Orongo.

Defences

Attrition was the greatest defense for Noth-Azin allowing the city to close off it's water channels and keep the desert unlivable.    There were also massive walls surrounding the city that provided defense as well.    Smaller inner city walls divided the slave quarters from the rest of the city, and could be isolated in a matter of seconds in a lockdown.

Industry & Trade

Noth-Azan was the slave producing capital of the Durangal Empire. People from all over would come and stay in the city while attending auctions to buy slaves for their various industrial or personal needs.

History

The city was constructed during the second era to house people of the massive southern province slave trade. Three City Cells already existed in the desert when the Durangal Empire formed, all filled with Nomai. They then created another two to increase slave breeding. The desert lands around Noth-Azin in Orongo were extremely dry and made for a good natural gatekeeper to watch over slaves. Should a slave somehow escape the City Cell they would be unable to make it far into the desert without dying from lack of water.   The City itself had been designed to pull up water from deep under the earth for miles down to give to the residents as well as the City Cells in small amounts. This could be controlled with a number of mechanical devices and could even create temporary rivers in the desert to help caravans in and out of the area.   In the last few years of the second era a global slave rebellion rose up against the Durangal and Noth-Azin was one of the first cities to fall. Slaves from within the city itself rebelled against their owners and managed to release two of the five City Cells before the controls were destroyed by the still alive guards. Those who were released from the cells joined the fight and the city was won after nearly three weeks of rioting. The Durangal attempted a few times to take the city back, but due to the attrition of the harsh desert and well designed city, all the attacks failed. During this time the freed slaves attempted to repair the devices that controlled the City Cells from Noth-Azin but had little luck.   When the Void Entity arrived, Noth-Azin was quickly killed off, though the City Cells that had still be full were mostly untouched. During the third era and onward the Tovaka people could occasionally hear what sounds like crying coming from the wind in that direction on cold nights. The city remained empty for a thousand years, forgotten and alone. The high peaks the city stood upon prevented it from being reclaimed from the desert sands.    During the forth era the Dead Sun Empire moved a small scouting party into Orongo to map out the area and claim settlements in the name of their empire. They raided one of the still operational City Cells, and then discovered the ruins of Noth-Azin. As they scouted and plundered the ruins, the leader had been killed back in Orisia and the sun had finally returned forcing them to stay hidden in the city. The Punished that were with them turned on the Ghosts and attacked them free from their former master's control.    Aside from a few Punished still roaming the halls of the city looking for blood, the city remains silent.

Tourism

Because of the isolated nature of Noth-Azin, the government was able to be much more relaxed with rules and taboos in the city. This acted in the slave trade's benefit as heading to Noth-Azin was a vacation and a business trip all in one. This allowed visitors to enjoy any hedonistic pleasure while they were there shopping for slaves. Those with even the most lavish and carefree lives enjoyed the extra freedom they had in Noth-Azin.
