Now the infamous letter of rejection was one of the first instances that cemented the reputation of duchess Shaqirelle Xanratra as the colorful personality she is now know as among the islenorian nobility. Long before she was even considered her father's legimate heir, Shaqirelle made unshakable impression to people around her with her sharp tongue and overpowering personality, and people would soon learn not to cross her unless absolutely necessary.

The Letter was a written response to young lord Aeric Yinnorin's attempt to get himself to young Shaqirelle's favour with a love letter. Response given was far from Aeric's expectations, and ended up causing a bit of a scandal back on it's time.

Historical Details

Background

Already as a young girl, Shaqirelle was showing a feisty nature that shocked the nobility around her but amused her father Erexis greatly. During the month of Mayol in year 3761, Duke Erexis was visiting the Archduchy of Summer Fields with his wife and Shaqirelle. Young Shaqirelle seem to have caught and eye of lord Aeric Yinnorin, son of Duke Glynlen Yinnorin, who was about the same age as Shaqirelle. Aeric, known from his antics of amusing maidens in the court would try his best to get in Shaqirelle's favor.

Despite Aeric's best attempts, Shaqirelle did not warm up for his advances. Eventually Shaqirelle's patience ran out after Aeric had sent her a letter, trying to sway her over. Instead, Shaqirelle wrote back, and made copies of the letter, makin sure that they were found in the castle, in the city board and one copy was sent specifically to Aeric's own mother. Such humiliation made Aeric drop his advances immediately.

Public Reaction

While multiple people empathized with Shaqirelle's want to get rid of a difficult suitor, her method of dealing with the situation in such a humiliating and cruel manner received great scrutiny. Shaqirelle's father, Duke Erexis, was requested to talk sense to her, and make her apologise. She never did.

According to rumours, Duke Erexis was so amused by his daughter's stunt, that he simply couldn't stop laughing and rewarded her daughter instead by calling her his warrior princess.

Legacy

The Incident permanently scarred the reputation of both Shaqirelle's and Aeric's reputation. While Aeric has since corrected his manners, Shaqirelle has never taken any critiques of her actions particularly seriously.

My dearest Aeric,

I notice you have truly gone beyond my wildest expectations. Your letter was magnificently well crafted, and your words were so well thought and placed, that I must admit I felt a sense of appreciation about your work. Unfortunately, your miraculous talent with words does not seem to translate into an understanding of words, which I truly find fascinating.

So you the help you seem to require to understand the things we have discussed previously, I am sending this letter to you in hopes that it would be more clear to you to consume. In case, however, you find my talents as a writer as inferior to yours, as they sadly might be, I have made sure there are few copies of this letter displayed in places where multiple individuals can read them, and as such, help you to decipher my message so we can arrive in a common understanding about the situation at hand.

I must admit, your charms might have caught the eye of several fine maidens, and though I might understand the appeal I must admit I do not share the sentiment. I find your adoring drooling more charming for a dog, and your smile catchy, like the one of a happy donkey, a comparison I find fitting for your ears as well.

As touched as I am that you compare my eyes to the rise of dawn, I must say that the comparison sounds hollow when one notices on how many of the ladies in court you have used the same complement - you must understand, dearest Aeric, that compliments are only good if they are unique and reserved to people who deserve them. Similarly, your fixation to touch my hair just reveals how much you smell like some other girl's perfume - I do not blame you if you prefer feminine scents on you, but you surely understand how something like that would make me suspicious of your sincerity.

I know, I know, you are sad to lose your bet with your friends, but I have no reason to aid you in your collection of kisses and conquests. But I am sure that with your honey'd words, you surely find another maiden to pester, one with less difficult of a character as I do.
