First Saldarn Treaty

Inspired by Summercamp 2020 prompt

The first Saldarn Treaty was a jump start to a tradition where the ruling bodies of nations surrounding the Inner Sea negotiate for common rules of trade and travel in the area. This set up a president for further co-operation, trade of culture and ideas, and increased prosperity in the region.

Purpose

Treaty was made by humans of Casau, Kingdom of Vilender, and Mazaloth, as well as high elven Republic of Amaever and sea elf nation Siáyú Veichúmn to promote, control and secure trade on the regions around the Inner Sea. This was to ease strained relationships of some of the participant nations and ensure fair treatment of the sea, which's floor is the home of Siáyú Veichúmn.

Historical Details

Background

Area of the Inner Sea had been in a complicated conundrum for centuries, due to lack of shared rules by the people that relied on the resources that the sea provided. One of the biggest issues had been with dealings involving the sea elven people of Siáyú Veichúmn, whos great nations lay on the top of the wawes. With issues with pirates, borders, common customs and practices, the people of the area started to get tired of constant bickering of parties involved and hoped for a more peaceful solution to the situation in hand.

After some discussions, nations agreed to have a meeting and establish a trade deal and diplomatic agreement about the future of the area. The meeting place agreed upon for the negotiations was the city of Saldarn in the island of Mydiir, inside the borders of Republic of Amaever, do to amaeverians having the most neutral and civil relationship with all parties involved.

In the negotiations, Casau was presented by Patrician Jordà Mapeil, Kingdom of Freynia by Niels Winther from the royal family, Mazaloth by viceroy Eztli Yaotl, Republic of Amaever by their Chancellor of Economy Faren Dornelis and Siáyú Veichúmn by the lady Bláisli of House Cíonn.

Legacy

Since the first agreement, it has become a tradition to renegotiate and extend the treaty every 20 years or so. Since them, more nations have become part of the arrangement and the areas of Inner Sea have experienced new waves of prosperity.

Kingdom of Vilender has improved its station particularly well due to these contracts, but this has also come with some major setbacks. Since the treaty, Vilender has become constitutional monarchy due to cultural influences and grown strong in matters of trade, but it has also ended up divided to Vilender, Elchner and Askevel, and the religious unrest among the people has increased.

Also Siáyú Veichúmn that previously had very little dealings with humans, has since become more curious and open to global politics beyond their own borders.

Term

Treaty was agreed to be effective for 20 years until the next negotiation, though under common treat or parties breaking the treaty, the treaty could have become void much earlier.

I like the fact that the treaty is renegotiated every twenty years. I assume that prevents any festering resentment from boiling over.
