Gale Lord
Gale Lord is the rank given to the leader of the Gale Riders. There is only ever one Gale Lord at a time, and the person who rises to claim this rank must have proven themselves time and time again on the Merchant's Span and must demonstrate great knowledge of the Span's wind currents.
Qualifications
In order to become the Gale Lord, one has to have worked in the Gale Riders for five years and have earned the absolute trust of the other Riders and the merchants on the Span. It is also required that the Gale Lord fully understand the wind currents of the Span.
Appointment
The rank of Gale Lord is given by the current Gale Lord to the Gale Rider of his choosing that meets the qualifications. After the rank is passed on, the old Gale Lord typically leaves the Gale Riders and retires.
Duties
A Gale Lord must be ready at any moments notice to combat the winds of the Merchant's Span. They must take care of their fellow Gale Riders' safety, and they must ensure the safety of the merchants traveling across the span at all costs.
Responsibilities
Most days a Gale Lord will simply oversee the Gale Riders' patrol routes for the day and will take care of any other logistic tasks. They will also make at least one trip around the Span each day.
Benefits
The Gale Lord is not given any material benefits over the other Gale Riders (as being a Gale Rider is a volunteer position in the first place), but a Gale Lord is often respected and trusted by powerful business men and leaders and may enjoy special privileges resulting from this.
Accoutrements & Equipment
When a Gale Rider takes upon the rank of Gale Lord, they bring their preferred equipment with them, but they are granted the privilege of having it infused with Melterium dust. This allows them to quickly respond to any emergency that may arise on the Span without having to worry about the wind affecting themselves.
