Watcher's Dictation Device

The scholar's living upon Watcher's Point are known for many things. Amongst them are their vows of silence and the vast library they have gathered there. Less well known are the Speakers, monks of such importance that their vows of silence are left behind, as the speakers are the voice of the scholars that dwell in the abbey. Only four Speakers serve at a time, and it is their sacred duty to give voice to the knowledge and wisdom gathered there.   Deep below the surface, locked away in a sacred vault, lie four chambers, one for each Speaker. within these chambers lay what the outside world refers to as the Watcher's Dictation Devices.   If there is a name for these devices, it has been lost, at least outside of the abbey. If the monks know of it, they have refused to share it with others. Nor is the nature and method of operation understood. Each chamber is protected from magical intrusion and scrying, nor are outsiders permitted to view the machines. on very rare and special occasions will a scholar be permitted to sit in an antechamber and listen to his life's work be read by the Speakers.   When the Speakers read aloud in their chamber, the spoken word is captured and translated into printed form in more than a dozen different languages. each copy is not just grammatically correct, however. word selection and common sayings are translated as well, as if the author were writing in his native tongue. regardless of the printed language.   Just how this feat is accomplished remains a mystery. What is known about the device's operation is it isn't magical in nature. Beyond that, speculation runs wild, from a choir of acolytes to a denizen of the outer plains,
