Oodaar-Ermyja

Oodaar-Ermyja is the home world of the Uruu-Hili.   It orbits a close binary star called Ruunqu-Snaih, consisting of the slightly larger and dimmer Ruunqu and the smaller but brighter Snaih.

Geography

Oodaar-Ermyja is tidally locked to its parent star, restricting life to a relatively narrow annular region. There are four major landmasses in this region:
  • Aruunar-Ikksal, the largest landmass lying to the north.
  • Obooqoo-Ytkjel, an extensive archipelago to the southeast.
  • Buntaa-Kirte, a continent to the south.
  • Oduunar-Ikkjys, a landmass connected to Aruunar-Ikksal but only accessible through inhospitable regions.
The remaining regions also have names but are generally grouped into the bright region Oree-Aki and the dark region Unaadaa-Inty. These regions also carry religious significance to the Uruu-Hili, so while they are inhospitable, attempts of pilgrimage to them started very early and became commonplace as soon as technically feasible—a crucial driver of innovation in aeronautics and later on space travel.

Ecosystem Cycles

As the planet is tidally locked and in a near-circular orbit, it exhibits very little variation in insolation. Eclipses of the stars it is orbiting, occurring approximately once every 10 earth days, are the most significant regular cycles the planet is subject to, and much of the local life seems to have formed biorhythms which are oriented after the eclipse cycle, known locally as Tun-Kenkyi.   There are however several apparently interacting biological cycles, including such varied things as the growth and collapse of algae populations near the substellar point and migrations of large land animals, that form a mostly stable "biological year" (Tun-Styty) of approximately 200 earth days.
