Entangled Tachyon Pulse Spacetime Tunnel Propulsion System
The entangled tachyon pulse spacetime tunnel propulsion system, commonly called tachyon drive, tunnel drive or jump drive, is an advanced FTL propulsion system manufactured by Spacetime Manipulation Systems Inc. It is based on technology found on the Ark.
This system is capable of transporting starships over long distances in a very short time, however the positional accuracy of the target point degrades with distance.
Principle of Operation
The basic principle involves the creation of two tachyon pulses which are in quantum entangled states, one of which is projected away from the object to be transported while the other is kept inside a cyclotron accelerator/decelerator. Through specific excitations of the local tachyon pulses wave function, a related excitation at the expelled burst is caused, which in turn causes highly localized spacetime distortions that connect the two points in space for a short time. The main limitations of the tachyon drive are:- The large size and high energy consumption of the tachyon synchrotron limit both the application to smaller ships and the maximum time the local pulse can be maintained, which in turn limits the range.
- As the expelled burst cannot be controlled in any way and accelerates as it loses energy, the positional accuracy deteriorates with range and is very sensitive to the precise timing of excitation.
